Freedom of expression? Sure!

What if a well planned expression of an establish authour offend 25% population of the word?

A case in point is "The Jewel of Medina" by Sherry Jones (b. 1961) is an American journalist from Spokane, Washington.

"I don't have a problem with historical fiction. I do have a problem with the deliberate misinterpretation of history. You can't play with a sacred history and turn it into soft core pornography." - Ms. Spellberg

I am afraid, real issue I wanted to highlight and sought comments on, seems to have excape attention! Though Jeff's comments must induce wider participation in the discussion. I have also repeated this post/origional one on facebook also.

Here is the search link on the relevant news generated through proposed publication of the book:

May I request for the comments of the book, motives behind writing such a provocative book while the world is already exposed to enormous discorder - thanks to WOT, and how conflicts arising out of this malafide venture could be defused. A valid comment on the book:

".... Spellberg asserted that "As an expert on Aisha's life, I felt it was my professional responsibility to counter this novel's fallacious representation of a very real woman's life. The author and the press brought me into a process, and I used my scholarly expertise to assess the novel. It was in that same professional capacity that I felt it my duty to warn the press of the novel's potential to provoke anger among some Muslims." She also stated that "The combination of sex and violence sells novels. When combined with falsification of the Islamic past, it exploits Americans who know nothing about Aisha or her seventh-century world and counts on stirring up controversy to increase sales."

Spellberg teaches courses, including the history of the Middle East and Gender in Islamic History and has a PhD from Columbia University.
