Working for Peace Nov 29, '08 12:37 PM
for everyone
I've been working for peace with several groups. It has not only helped others, but helped me, even in the darkest of times. It's not only those who are spiritual who have helped me through these dark times, but even a couple who have no belief in God themselves. Frankly, I think those two "atheists" display a truer Christian behavior than many professed "Christians." They have worked with me on several fronts for the promotion of peace, humanity, freedom, and liberty. They might not like me saying this, but, here goes anyway...
Matthew 5:9
King James Bible
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Those who profess to be "Christian" and yet promote war, hatred, and violence should be ashamed of themselves. Even atheists act in a more Christ-like manner. Did Jesus say, "Seek revenge on your enemies for they did something to you first?" No, He said:
Matthew 5:39
King James Bible
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Romans 12:14
King James Bible
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that it's not easy to stand there and keep taking it. It's natural to have the desire to strike back. I've been guilty of striking back, myself. That doesn't make it right. What is worse, though, is slapping someone first to make a pre-emptive slap just to try to keep them from wanting to slap you. If you slap them, what is their natural desire going to be?
Violence begets violence.
Proverbs 10:6 (New American Standard Bible)
Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Notice that in the wisdom of Proverbs, it says that the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. What does it make those who cover up for violent offenders? What does it make those who remain silent to protect violent and evil people?
If we speak out against lies, corruption, and violence, we expose them to the light. They will cower, run, and wither when enough light is shone on them. There's no need to take violent action against them. All we need to do is speak out against it.
Make Your Voice Known
Speak out, speak out
All who have remained silent
All who have had their voices silenced
Let your voice be heard
Speak out, speak out
All who despise the injustice
All who have tired of losing their rights
Let your voices ring
Sing out, sing out
All who care for your fellow man
All who have been made to feel foolish for doing so
Let your voices chime in harmony
Sing out, sing out
All who tire of war
All who have been called terrorist for promoting peace
Drown out the voice of darkness
For when we make our voice heard
The creator will join in with us
And quench the evil that has oppressed us
Bringing us into the light
