Gregory Colbert is a filmmaker and photographer born in 1960 in Toronto, Canada, and became known as the creator of the "Ashes and Snow" (Ashes and Snow) a collection of artistic photographs and films that have their exhibition place in Nomadic Museum, a traveling museum that runs the world to receive visitors.
The first exhibition of Gregory Colbert, "Timewaves", opened in 1992 the Elysée Museum of Photography, Switzerland, with great critical acclaim. In the ten years that followed, Colbert did not exhibit publicly exhibited his artwork or any movie. Instead, he traveled to places like India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Dominica, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tonga, Namibia and Antarctica to film and photograph scenes of interaction between humans and animals.
Species like the elephant, the whale, the manatee, the sacred ibis, Antigone, the heron, the golden eagle, the hawk-gyrfalcon, the rhinoceros hornbill, cheetah, leopard, African hunting dog , the caracal, baboon, antelope, meerkats, gibbons, orangutans and the crocodile-of-water-salt are among the animals who filmed and photographed. The human subjects on which they addressed include the monks of Burma, the trance dancers (dancers of ecstasy), the San people and other indigenous tribes from across the world.
In 2002, Colbert presented the results of all this in "Ashes and Snow" in Venice, Italy. A critique published on April 9, 2002 in The Globe and Mail stated, "Colbert raised the veil of Ashes and Snow, an exhibition of pictures and unprecedented both in scope or scale. Occupying an area of 12,600 square meters , is considered one of the largest individual views in the history of Europe. "

A primeira exposição de Gregory Colbert, “Timewaves”, abriu em 1992 no Museu Elysée de fotografia, na Suíça, com grandes aplausos da crítica. Nos dez anos que se seguiram, Colbert não expôs publicamente o seu trabalho artístico nem exibiu qualquer filme. Trazem também a música tradicional dos povos que ele visitou e neste primeiro vídeo, inclusive, a declamação de um conhecido poema intitulado "Pena de Fogo", narrado em três idiomas por Laurence Fishburne (Inglês), Ken Watanabe (Japão), e Enrique Rocha (espanhol).
