When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I am a born activist
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Human Rights
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Fear
More
When we fear the other, we not only refrain from getting to know him/her better, but often create (terrifying) fantasies about what 'they' would do to 'us" if 'they' only had the chance... This often then leads to aggressive behaviors on our part...and so the vicious cycle goes on and on.
If we work on recognizing the fear, and then work on concrete and positive levels to overcome it, we could make some important strides toward peace.

Of course, other factors also play into our difficulties in making peace, but they usually stem from fear of the 'other', the 'outsider', the unknown. By dealing with this most basic of emotions, we can create a different, better reality.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
Julia Chaitin received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva, Israel. Her research has three main foci: (1) the long–term psychosocial impact of the Holocaust on survivors and their families and on young adults; (2) joint Palestinian–Israeli psychosocial research and (3) issues of ethnic belonging and identity among refugee/immigrant populations.

Dr. Chaitin specializes in qualitative research, basing her work on narrative research, ethnography, storytelling and inter–group facilitation. She has published extensively in these fields. In 2001–2002, Chaitin held the Lentz Post Doctoral Fellowship in Peace and Conflict Resolution Research at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. From 2003–2006, she was Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Dr. Chaitin is currently a Senior Lecturer in the department of Social Work at the Sapir College in Israel and on staff at the Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace and Development (NISPED).

Since her teenage years, she has been a peace and social justice activist - involved in groups such as The Coexistence Forum of the Negev - www.dukium.org ; Women in Black; Other Voice - www.othervoice.org - to name just a few.

I went to Sameh's mepeace page and saw that Souhail left him a comment there last night, so things seems to be on track for it.
Thanks!

Shalom-salaam Julia,
There's a young Palestinian from Germany who is on mepeace trying to organize transport of in-kind charitable donations (clothing, etc.) to Gaza, but doesn't know how to get things to the right people there. Yigal wisely suggested he ask you, because of your Sderot-Gaza connection. Since you're not on mepeace anymore, I thought I'd let you know about it here. Here's a link to the mepeace discussion thread. I'd be happy to pass your contact info to him there privately, if you like.
Blessings,
-Hayyim

And i know you are very interested by any action in Gaza...
