More
Those who benefit from conflict have a clear incentive to initiate or perpetuate it. Even when the benefits are outweighed by unanticipated costs (as is usually the case) conflict will often persist because it has destroyed the basis of trust on which the parties might have built a productive relationship. Each side, winner and loser now fears the 'other'. Both become prisoners.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I came to this site for the original text of Noa's (Achinoam Nini) letter to Palestinians. From what I have read so far the contributors seem to be primarily focused on providing Israel 'soft' support for Israel's actions, whilst lamenting those actions real effects on Palestinians.
As for me, I am not Jewish. I am a UK citizen and resident. I grew up listening to Michael Elkins frequent contributions to the BBC's "From Our Own Correspondent". More than anything, this shaped my view of Israel as a plucky little democracy valiantly holding back a tide of brutal Arab dictatorships.
The intervening decades have utterly destroyed that adolescent image. I am now a vigorous opponent of Israeli policy and actions. There are no sanctions against Israel I would not support, short of the kind of barbarity recently meted out to Gazans.
I have spent three months living with Palestinians on a refugee camp in the OPT.
