When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I feel the pain in the world
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
War, Poverty, Education, Violence
So what is it?
Violent conflicts
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Economic disparities
More
Most violent conflicts particularly in Africa have their roots in the economic disparities. The conflict in Kenya is about unfair distribution of land, the widening gap between the poor and the rich, unfair distribution of jobs equally among different ethnic groups etc. The war in the Congo is about the precious stones, 70% of Coltan which is used to make cellphones and computer chips are from the Congo. The war in Sudan has everything to do with its oil particularly in the South and Darfur regions.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I am currently doing my Graduate Studies in Coexistence and Conflict in Brandeis University. I have been participating in grassroot advocacy for peace initiatives in Kenya since 2002. I am a co-founder of Seeds Of Peace Africa (SOPA) International www.seedsofpeaceafrica.com, and the Founder of Center for Regeneration and Empowerment of Africa Through Africa (CREATA) ( www.creata.or.ke ). With SOPA I have been working in Gambella Regional State in Ethiopia, mobilizing youths into peace initiatives in the region. I participated in organizing the community of Lucky Summer estate in Nairobi to reduce violence caused by the post election crisis in Kenya in the early part of 2008 by setting up community policing units, and mobilizing the community to embrace dialogue.
