An American Woman & Israili man ~One Night On iPeace Chat~ Peace Story

One Night On iPeace Chat
A few months ago I was on ipeace group chat,a handful of people from around the world enjoying conversation. I suddenly noticed a new name and face chiming in. I immediately felt this young man's(as I learned soon after I started to chat with him) frustrations and reaching out for support. He was in Israel, during time of the ongoing conflict with Palestine in Gaza. I politely typed to others I had been chatting with..he was there. As I began to chat with Kobi he told me of his frustrations. He could not talk to his friends in Palestine due to power outages there. He was new to iPeace, and learned about it from a singer for peace..how he found a flyer about this singer.
He said that he had tried to create a meditation group for peace, but said was discoureged because people were to cynical. Didn't believe that peace was possible because to many were cynical..by this time the others on the chat realized I was talking with him, giving encouragement in his efforts, they politely, left us to talk.
I told Kobi that any positive caring efforts for peace DID make a difference, even if he could not see it. That one persons voice CAN in fact make a difference. His thoughts, efforts and words made a difference. He began to feel more possitive, hopeful.( at least I felt he did? ).I told him that those were cynical may not say,nor even show that his efforts were indeed -positive peaceful ,perhaps even hopefull ,thoughts left in their minds and hearts, that even if only one other person was touched by feelings of wanting peace,he had made a difference. Our words, thoughts hope for peace DOES touch anothers heart, even if at the time they may not know it,or show it. The seeds of love and understanding had been planted.
Whether or not his meditation group continued or noone showed up -he is here,on ipeace, writing, discussing, sharing with others around the world. A frienship with a young Israeili man and an American woman was created that night. I check in on him from time to time. I leave a few notes telling him how delighted I am to see him here, thriving in peace and making many friends. He replies with thank you's to me on my profile page.
That chat stayed with me,as we talk of peace, share our stories, make new friends, think about all the horrific things happened & happening in Israel & Palestine..that an Americam woman & a young man in Israel formed a friendship in a few words typed on a computer one night on ipeace chat.

* Kobi my friend,if i made any mistakes in memory of our chat please feel free to chime in here and make corrections.

Kobi,
I hope you are following this. I want to tell you about what one person can do. I want to tell you about one man who is an inspiration to us all here on ipeace...his name as we all know and love is David Califa...an Israeli man with a heart like a bucket as they say in the UK...he had a vision to change the world...he started with candle 4 Tibet hoping that a few hundred would register their protest about what China has been doing to Tibet for the last fifty years...he proposed a light protest on the eve of the Olympic Games last year on 7th August...well we reckon that near a hundred million candles were lit in that protest...he had made a change to the way in which we saw the world...he went on to found this site in time for Peace One Day on September 21st...you have seen all that he has achieved here by bringing together like minded people to share the dream of peace even in the most impossible situations...and he is just one person with a big dream...

Another man with a big dream was Gandhi who was never afraid to speak his mind and stand up for the principles of non-violence...millions of people have read and been inspired by his wonderful words to pursue the path of non-violence...and he was just one person.

Then there was Mother Teresa of India...who worked with the poorest of the poor, the untouchables, dispensing her simple creed of peace and love to all...she touched many millions of lives...and she was just one person.

And then there was John Lennon...with his 'Image there's no war, nothing to kill or die for...' which we still sing...he changed the lives of millions of people...and he was just on person.

...and then there was Kobi...who one night started a conversation with someone in the USA whose story has touched lives and inspired people already...no situation is so hopeless that love cannot transform it my friend...you have already reached out to your Palestinian brother...you are showing what love can do...he changed you...you changed him...you have (as Gandhi said) become the change. Kobi never despair...while there are people like you my friend in this world there is hope...and hope is a light that is burning ever brighter in this dark world.

Hi dear sister friend Leah....thank you so very much for sharing this with me and the ipeace people....you know how much you and I have connected Leah, well.....prepare yourself for this....I am a Jew....my family came from Germany, Russia and I forget the name it starts w/an E....anyway...I was not brought up in the traditional Jewish religion and do not know much about it, but.....there is a part of me that grieves for this people as for centuries and centuries they have been fighting just to live like everyone else....and for centuries have been hated and blamed for all the problems in the world. It is out of ignorance that breeds hatred!!! This I have learned. I turned Catholic in 1993 as all my children were raised Catholic. As time passed since then, I am a spiritual person that has discovered that you can love your enemies as well as you can love your friends.....it is called compassion, being unbiased and non judgemental. It is realizing that we are all human beings and there is good, bad and evil in every single religion known to man....it is accepting people for who they are and giving them the right to live their own lives, practice their own beliefs and respect their wishes. Israel and the Palastinian people need to let go of centuries of hate and bias and look at each other as fellow human beings that deserve respect, dignity and the freedom to live their lives as law binding people.....it is the old that keep the hate going....it is the young and the new, that can change it all and it begins with talking to each other....welcome Kobi, any friend of Leah is a friend of mine....in peace and love....Linda

Hay Leah
Thank you for your warm words. I am sorry for turning buck to you in a delay, I am working & it is also the end of the semester. I promise to find the time for answering you as detailed as I can.
Just for now, today I had an amazing conversation with a friend of main, her name is Ranin (a Palestinian). We almost cried at the end of the conversation.
Nevertheless, my heart is right now with the Iranian youth, I think about it all day long & hope they will become free, they deserve it.
Hope to here you soon,
Kobi.

Dear Leah
Thank you for writing such a beautiful & inspiring story. I was especially inspired from reading our conversation from your point of view.
Let me tell you how much you are right. Before several weeks I set with a Palestinian friend & as a "footnote" he suddenly told me about his thinking on what I have told him during the war. He found the sense in these arguments & even agreed on some. I also learned to see what happened from his prism & changed my mind for some aspects.
Don’t get it wrong, I am still pessimist.
The chances for peace here are striving to zero. The fanaticism in both sides is rising each day & our new government is a shame, I participated in some of the demonstrations here against resist law's proposals against Moslems & we all know it's just the beginning. With the other side the racism is even worse- while they don’t even start to understand the right of Jews for a state.
The fundamentalism here establishes an "amazing" geometric structure of conflict: The Islamic majority doesn't even start to respect the Jewish minority (minority in the aspect of the world), while the Jewish majority inside Israel doesn't even think about the Palestinian minority suffer.
Sorry for being a pessimist again, but for me the solution will come from ppl who'll talk about the hardcore issues.
Again, thanks for the story & keep on your good will- we need ppl like you.
Kobi.
