In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, tons of thousands of women have been brutally attacked since the onset of the civil war. No end appears to be in sight.
Unfortunately, violence against women is an all too common phenomenon. Millions of women and girl children are raped, beaten, and senselessly murdered.
On December 20, 1993, the United Nations General Assembly adopted The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, A/RES/48/104. On December 17, 1999, Resolution 54/134, designating November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. On this day, governments and organizations around the world conduct various activities to raise awareness of this very crucial issue. Women activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).
Please contact the different women groups in your area and get involved.
I Wish All The Love To These Suffering Doves
A poem for peace
Written by: Pax Hatter
Hope the ones that would harm Cease now and disarm
Pray they open their eyes
and with that grow wise
Release all they now hurt
Stop fighting for "DIRT"
Lift up sisters and brothers
Respect children and mothers
Show true bravery
and end this slavery
We cannot turn our backs
on these horrible acts
Write nonsensical prose
smell a fragrant rose
Just warm tea on the stove
eat fruit from the grove
play the music too loud
move to a cloud
Skip through each day
feeling care free and gay
Take a minute or too
To see what is TRUE
Look up from the sand
And please lend a hand.
Because if you DON’T
If you say that you WON’T
Remember my friend
THIS WILL NEVER END!
