L’Atma è conosciuto anche come Brahman per cui l’apprendimento della Conoscenza Atmica (Atma Vidya) è da ritenere l’obiettivo principale di ogni studente. Coloro che desiderano ottenere questa conoscenza devono guadagnarsi alcune caratteristiche primarie; soltanto allora meritano lo stato di “studente”. Queste sono: la discriminazione (Viveka), la rinuncia (Vairagya) e l’aver sradicato tutte le tendenze malvagie da se stessi. Gli aspiranti che, in conseguenza a queste qualità, hanno un buon carattere possono certamente sperare di portare a manifestazione l’Atma senza troppa difficoltà.

The Atma is also known as Brahman, so learning the Atma Vidya (Atmic knowledge) is to be considered the main objective by every student. Students who yearn to acquire this knowledge have to earn some primary qualifications. They are: Viveka (discrimination), Vairagya (renunciation), and the zeal to ensure that all evil propensities are uprooted within themselves. Only then do they deserve the status of being a student. Aspirants who possess a good character through these qualifications can confidently hope to attain the Atma without much difficulty.

Ottimismo e pessimismo sottintendono due filosofie di vita. Il pessimista non vede più in là delle piccole cose della terra, mentre l’ottimista apre la sua anima alle vaste distese del cielo. Egli sa che l’uomo è predestinato a raggiungere un giorno la sua patria celeste. Sul cammino che conduce a questa patria, incontrerà ovviamente il male in tutte le sue forme, soffrirà, dubiterà degli altri e di se stesso, si scoraggerà. Ma anche nei momenti peggiori non soccomberà, perché nel suo cuore e nella sua anima resta inscritta questa verità: Dio lo ha creato a Sua immagine e quell’immagine di Dio contiene in potenza tutte le ricchezze, tutte le vittorie."

Optimism and pessimism - two ways of looking at life

"There is a lot more to the subject of optimism and pessimism than people generally think. Only those who seek spiritual riches can be truly optimistic, whereas those who focus on material riches and are at first full of hope will sooner or later have to give up their illusions.
Optimism and pessimism imply two philosophies of life. Pessimists see no further than the petty earthly things, while optimists open their soul to the vast expanses of heaven, knowing that humans are destined one day to return to their heavenly homeland. On the way to this homeland, they will of course meet evil in all its forms, they will suffer, they will doubt others and themselves, and they will lose courage. But even during the worst times they will not founder, because there is a truth etched in their heart and soul: that God created them in his image and that this image holds the potential for all riches and every victory. "
