Do any others have issue with the pressure put on people by commercial interests at this time of year. Why is it that in this multi-cultural planet with corresponding beliefs that the Christian 'christmas' is still forced on us? Now it affects me little being insulated from all the hype by seclusion but when I was out in the world working etc I found it frustrating at times that although I do not believe in Christianity I am still forced to abide by it. Why is it we don't show the same respect for other beliefs?

The pressure this puts on families to spend is enormous and extremely stressful. Many these days cannot afford this additional expense but the indoctrination from public bodies leaves them little choice unless they have always avoided the trap and their offspring do not suffer. I'm not anti-christian or anything like that just like to be able to choose such things personally.

is it possible that the insistence of governments to observe such things actually contributes to non peaceful living? just a thought.

ps my hubby is a christian and has the same opinion as yourself having experienced some of the best and worst

Never give up
No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country is spent
Developing the mind instead of the heart.
Be compassionate not just to your friends but to everyone
Be compassionate.
Work for peace in your heart and in the world.
Work for peace and I say again
Never give up.
No matter what is happening,
No matter what is going on around you,
Never give up.

I consider myself a Christian, but I do not hold to the commercialized, conventional beliefs. Christ wasn't about material goods. He was about the Spirit within. Churches, at least in this country, have become so materialistic that they can't even see what they are doing. They try to produce "Jesus salesmen" who will bring in more money to their particular church. It's more of a social club similar to a mulit-level marketing scheme than it is about spirituality in many cases, it seems.

I believe the practice started out with good intentions to exemplify the spirit of giving that should be within all true followers of Christ, but between zealousy and corporate interest, it's become more of a money making scam.

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Is With Us All,

Cal-el
