Yoga was and never has been in its history, only hatha stretches. All the Ancient Peoples from the all over the world stretched themselves like animals by observing and imitating them. They also sat and looked at the night sky and contemplated the energy of the sun. They noted that one type of energy was softer and quieter and the other was strong enough to grow new things. (The well known concept in China of Yin and Yang is being used more in our modern languages and is starting to make sense to a growing mass of people.)
In more Ancient times many people became too busy hoping to simply survive to do contemplative practices regularly after generations passed. More and more people continually got out of good habits of taking care of themselves, as they previously did under the leadership of a Medicine Lineage Carrier. (People in some nations called them Shamans. That person or persons would teach individuals ways that helped them to keep finding better survival techniques and overcome weakness.) Western nations came along and insisted people convert to their religions and thinking processes. Before that happened, people who didn't want to be eaten by wild animals or have their land taken by other tribes would learn from the Shaman who taught ancient remedies.
Now people in these modern worlds don't want to be ‘eaten’ by government controls on medicines, foods and education which our societies permit to be developed in increasingly un-natural ways. It is a logical revolution since people are able to research things themselves more with the help of the internet, more of us are taking charge of the power we were born with to equate the energy in the earth and universe with energies in our bodies. Ayervedic Medicine from India, Taoist and Buddhist Healing systems from China and the Orient and all other natives around the world whose systems were passed on father/mother to son/daughter are becoming popular ways that people are recognizing that they can interact with symptoms and relieve them through movement combined with ways to think about, feel, and touch the currents of energy that are in living things and pull out their healing powers.
Are you doing more than just stretching? Today could be the day to begin researching and finding ways you can become more interactive with your inert healing capabilities that need to be re-developed in specific ways. Do some more for yourself starting today. Eat better, think better, dream better, quiet yourself through practices and become an evolving being in this lifetime.
