Before Cara Delevingne became the fashion industry's poster child for enviable eyebrows, there was Brooke Shields. Her perfect pout and bushy brows helped her become the face of Calvin Klein when she was just 15 and launched her successful modeling and acting career that continues today. (Side note: She's also writing her sixth book.) So when we heard she was M·A·C Cosmetics' latest collaborator, we immediately thought: brow product.
And indeed, the line, which will be available in October, has a Veluxe Brow Liner in a mid tone, muted gray and a brow set with clear gel. But the real star of the collection is the 16-shade eye shadow palette—the largest the brand has ever done with a celebrity—that ranges from a soft, golden, peach beige to black, and offers multiple finishes including matte, pearl, and shimmer. The line also features a cream blush duo, two shades of lipstick, a bronzer, two Lipglasses, two shades of nail lacquer, and a mascara.

So, how did this all come about? Serendipitously, Shields told WWD: “There’s this little place I go to get coffee after I drop my kids [daughters Rowan, 11, and Grier, 8] off for school and after a yoga or spin class, where I think no one will see me without makeup. Of course, who do I run into but James [Gager, M·A·C’s senior vice president and creative director], Mr. M·A·C? After we talked a few times, he approached me about the next Icon line and asked if I would consider designing it with them.”
Shields is not just the face of the line, she was also super hands-on in the collaboration process: Her daughters even got to name all the shades. She originally created two concepts---a fresh-faced clean daytime look and a vampy nighttime look with a focus on the eyes---and M·A·C decided to go with both. “Every woman we know, even if they have a predominant style, definitely has two sides,” said Shields. “So we decided to highlight the richness of both of those.”
M·A·C certainly knows how to pick an unexpected, yet completely cool collaborator (hello, Marge Simpson!), but we're particularly excited about this partnership. “Brooke resonates globally, and she keeps reinventing herself,” Gager told WWD. “She’s an ageless beauty. She’s also a mom, an actress, a model with everything happening all at once, like most modern women.” Jennifer Balbier, senior vice president of global product development chimed in, “She’s the consummate all-American girl and a great role model." We couldn't agree more.
