SANTA CLARA, Calif. jerseys from china . -- The San Francisco 49ers have added another quarterback to the competition to be Colin Kaepernicks backup, signing nine-year veteran Seneca Wallace to a one-year contract Thursday. While Colt McCoy had appeared to be the favourite to win the No. 2 job coming into training camp, neither he nor Scott Tolzien have separated themselves. Even rookie B.J. Daniels has been deemed a contender, though clearly Wallace now will get a chance with little time to prepare before the Sept. 8 season opener against Green Bay. 49ers offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman said this week that Sundays game against Minnesota would be important for all of the quarterbacks. "I think its going to be a big game for them, big game for all of us," Roman said. "But, I think they just need to improve really down-in, down-out consistency. The right reads, obviously making the right throws. Theyve done some really good stuff up til now, stuff thats under-the-radar type things. Again, theyve had some plays that theyd love to do over again. So, its a matter of coming out this week and having a really strong performance." Wallace, who was competing with Luke McCown to back up Drew Brees in New Orleans, had his contract terminated by the Saints on Monday. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that McCoy likely would play second after Kaepernicks stint is done in Sunday nights exhibition against Minnesota at Candlestick Park. McCoy, Tolzien and Daniels each have been getting regular repetitions in practice with the No. 2 offence, Harbaugh said. He isnt against giving a rookie the backup quarterback job, which Kaepernick had behind Alex Smith after being drafted in the second round from Nevada in 2011. "Yes, its OK. How that plays out, we will see," Harbaugh said. "Its OK for a veteran to be the backup." McCoy hasnt looked sharp or comfortable this preseason, and it appears he is still trying to find his way in Harbaughs expansive offence. He has completed 6 of 13 passes for 76 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions while also getting sacked once. "Definitely, its a factor," Harbaugh said of transitioning to a new team. "I dont know if its a percentage that youre looking for. Is it a percentage youre looking for or how much? Its definitely a factor, and the good improvement this week, hes working at it very hard, it means a lot to him and it does to us, too. Were coaching him up the best we can and well keep striving for improvement each day." San Francisco waived wideout Ricardo Lockette, who worked out with Kaepernick in Atlanta for a stretch this off-season along with departed A.J. Jenkins. Also Thursday, when the players had a scheduled day off, San Francisco placed safety Darcel McBath on season-ending injured reserve and claimed linebacker Joe Holland off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Holland originally signed with San Francisco last season as an undrafted free agent before being cut Aug. 31 ahead of the season. McBath was a regular on special teams last season for the NFC champion Niners, appearing in all 16 games. nfl jerseys china . -- Both Alberta rinks and Quebecs mens rink remained unbeaten with victories in Draw 6 on Sunday at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian juniors curling championship. Cheap Jerseys . During Wednesday nights game in Calgary, Ashton drove Smith into the boards from behind. He was assessed a two-minute penalty on the play and then a further five minutes for fighting after engaging with Calgary defenceman Shane OBrien, who took Ashton to task for the hit. TORONTO -- His team floundering with eight straight league losses, Toronto FC manager Aron Winter shook up his coaching staff Monday to take a more active role on the practice field. Bob de Klerk leaves his post as first assistant coach to become the MLS franchises newly minted technical manager. The Dutchman will do everything from advance and international scouting, to being the bridge between the academy and the first team, and working one-on-one with young players. Jim Brennan, TFCs first signing and captain, moves up from the academy to become first assistant coach. Paul Mariner, the teams director of player development, will spend more time on the pitch coaching the teams strikers. While the 0-8-0 MLS club called it promotions for all concerned, the major change seems to be shifting the fiery de Klerk away from the first team. Winter confirmed he will have a more hands-on approach in training. De Klerk often ran first team practices with Winter watching from a distance, stepping in when he saw fit and addressing the team as a whole. Jason Bent, the other assistant, usually looks after the non-first team players in practice. Last week, it was de Klerk yelling commands at the first team. On Monday, Winter was running the show under the sun at BMO Field. De Klerk was watching from the stands with other front office officials. Winter, who came to the club as a package deal with de Klerk, denied the changes were made because of the teams dismal record. "I want to use everyones strengths," he said. "And Bob is a very good assistant coach but he has also done the job that he is going to do now with Ajax (before)." Winter went to great pains to depict the changes as positive. He said it was his decision to shuffle the coaching staff, making a point of calling his relationship with de Klerk "perfect." One wonders if all his players shared that view. If Winter is icy cool, De Klerk is a blowtorch. His tough love may not have been appreciated in all quarters. Mondays move gives Winter two Canadian assistant coaches, both of whom have played in MLS. TFCs last game saw de Klerk being separated from Montreal manager Jesse Marsch at the end of a 2-0 Toronto win at BMO Field. De Klerk said it was just two coaches showing their passion. "Thats football. A big coach in the past, Rinus Michels (the former Dutch coach and player credited with inventing Total Football),, said Football is war . wholesale nfl jerseys. .. He (Marsch) wants to win and I want to win. Its not a big deal." Winter said the near scuffle -- not the first for de Klerk -- had nothing to do with the changes. Asked why the moves were made, de Klerk politely referred the question to Winter. But de Klerk also looked to paint a positive picture. "We thought about it -- whats the best for Toronto FC." "Theres a lot of work to do ... If we help each other at that moment and can support each other and use each others strength, we can be a better organization," he added. Asked if he would miss working with the first team, de Klerk said no doubt sometimes. "But its not gone for always." Despite his omnipresent smile, it did not seem like a job change he had requested. Brennan, a Day 1 member of the franchise, has spent the past 15 months coaching Torontos under-17 academy team. He also served as assistant general manager. The former Canadian international, who retired as a player in 2010, and former striker Danny Dichio were the first two players to be named to the franchises Wall of Honour at BMO Field. "I think everyone kind of knows how much this club means to me and if I can do my part for the first team, that would be fantastic," said Brennan, who expects to work on the clubs defensive side. Striker Danny Koevermans had little to say about the coaching changes. "We heard it before training and now we continue. Thats soccer," he said pithily. Asked if a change was needed, Koevermans replied: "I dont know. Ask me again in six weeks and then well see if it turns out positive." On the player front, Winter said captain Torsten Frings will not travel to Vancouver for Wednesdays first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship final with the Whitecaps. Frings played against Montreal in last weeks semifinal win but only after taking three injections to dull the pain of a shoulder injury. "Now I think its important to give him the time to recover," said Winter, adding he hopes to have the former German international available for Saturdays road game against D.C. United. Defender Miguel Aceval (hamstring) also will not travel because of injury. But Koevermans has recovered from a groin injury and is ready to play. The Dutch forward look sharp in training, hammering a shot for a goal and showing good flair in front of net. ' ' '
