My Argument For Rolex Watches Article On AskMen

I was asked to write an article making an "argument for Rolex watches." Now, understand I didn't know what the argument against Rolex watches was going to be, so I simply needed to make a broad and effective argument in favor of the world's most ubiquitous luxury watch. For what ever you can say against Rolex, a ridiculous amount of owners and fans can't be that wrong. I wouldn't go so far as to say Rolex could be the only watch brand you need to look at, but they do have a lot of merit.

Like I said, my argument was constructed for all types of people to understand. If you read the comments after the articles, some people got irked that my articles didn't delve deep into some of the more technical or historical aspects of the argument. I appreciate their sentiments, but they need to realize that the article was intended to appeal to people who didn't know or care about what was inside of a watch movement. Of course one 'does' have other things when one buys a Ulysse Nardin or a Benzinger or something, but since they are beyond my price range, what I 'can' enjoy is a beautiful Rolex. And finally, they are cool looking, they simply are. From the old Explorer to the new Datejust, they simply are terrific designs.

By contrast, brands like JLC, GO, replica breitling Bentley 6.75, etc., offer fine watches often with more compelling aesthetics and/or mechanics. What Rolex has the sheer elegance of a VC Patrimony, or JLC Reverso? If you want a pilot style watch, don't look at Rolex but the GO Senator Navigator is pretty fantastic, and likewise with the IWC Big Pilot.

Hi John,I agree with you. There are many arguments against Rolex. Of which include that they are arrogant, conservative, overpriced, and haven't exactly innovated in a long time. Still, I think getting one as a gift would put a big smile on your face. That power right there is a big deal as part as I am concerned. And to a large degree a replica breitling Montbrillant 01 really is as good as money from a value perspective. Trust me on that. The best bet? Have a Rolex in a well diversified collection of watches :) That way you can have the best of all worlds.
