The success on this Monday added to Brees' career dominance on "Monday Night Football." Brees picked up his ninth consecutive on 'MNF' win and is tied with Joe Montana for the third longest winning streak on Mondays. Ken Stabler (11) and Steve Young (10) are the only two passers ahead of Brees.

Brees also has five games on "Monday Night Football" with at least four TD passes, which tied him with Dan Marino for the most all time, according to ESPN.

"He is at a really sharp level," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "He did a real good job with his progressions, protected the football well and he was outstanding."

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin added: "He played excellent. He had very good command. He threw the ball accurately. He made good decisions."

And of course Brees can't help but make NFL history seemingly every time he touches the field no matter the day.

Brees now sits sixth on the NFL's all time passing yards list as he has passed Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton (47,003) in the first quarter during the Saints' opening scoring drive. Those ahead of Brees are Brett Favre, Marino, Peyton Manning, John Elway and Warren Moon.

"Drew is a special quarterback," Saints tight end Jimmy Graham said. "He's one of the best of all time."

He returned to play the first series of the second half, but he was checked out on the trainer's table after the series. Lewis then returned to play nearly the rest of the game despite the ailment.

A couple of firsts: Graham usually dominates the catches for Saints tight ends, but Graham's backup received a taste of the end zone Monday night. Veteran Benjamin Watson picked up his first touchdown with the Saints on a four yard grab in the third quarter.
