LIVING THE DREAM ~DEDICATED TO OBAMA & KING~By Antoinette Denise Johnson

LIVING THE DREAM

They said that it could not be done
Yet we accomplished it, yes we won

They said that it is not about race
I say it is when I look at his face

They said that it is not black or white
I say it's both, in my eye sight

I say it's black, white, beige, and brown
I say it is all of us this time around

They said that Black people were no good
Now we have acknowledgement, as we all should

No longer placed on the proverbial black burner
There for the long hall, cutting no corners

We are still here, and not going nowhere
We've finally got a man, who actually cares

Cares about the race of humanity
The human race, as are we

They can make their comments, some rude and snide
We are not haters, we just have ethnic pride

I have pride when I see the man with my skin-tone
If I didn't, wouldn't it mean that I didn't love my own

Wouldn't it mean I didn't have pride for my daddy and mama
If I did not take pride in Barack and Michelle Obama

They said that it is not black or white
I say it's both in my eye sight.

I say it's black, white, beige, and brown
I say it is all of us this time around

I say it's time we change, change we need
Barack and Michelle Obama, and the Bidens' indeed

I just wish Daddy and Mama were here to see
A Black man in The White house, sweet victory

A father a mother and two smart young girls
A Black family of four just like in my world

I have pride when I see the man with my skin-tone
If I didn't, wouldn't it mean that I didn't love my own

Oh but I do, despite what they said of me
I'm proud of my African American ancestry

I say it's time we change, change we need
Barack and Michelle Obama, and the Bidens' indeed

When this change occurs, the angels will sing
along with Coretta Scott and Dr. Martin Luther King

Along with the ancestors, of me and for me
Sing out America we are living the dream

Sing out America we are living the dream
Praise God! America, let freedom ring!

Mystic, thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. This poem is much deeper than about race. It is talking about something much more closely related to me and my ancestors, if you don't see it, I cannot make you see it.
Everyone is however entitled to his or her opinion. Thanks for reading my poetry.
I didn't vote for Barack Obama because he was African-American either. I voted for him because he is the best man for the job. Obviously, I wasn't the only one who felt this way. If you don't have opinions about my poem, please don't post anymore political comments here. Thank You Very Much!

It should never be about color.
I am, as you would label me, white. But to me, I'm just a human being. The color of ones skin is a difference due to geneological environment differences. The real issue on supporting a person or cause should be based on right or wrong. The basic right or wrongs, nothing fancy, nothing in the gray area.
And by the way, I voted for Obama, not because of his skin color, not because of his popularity, I voted for him to try and change the direction the country is headed in.
I married an oriental woman, so my 2 children are half white and half oriental, but when I look at them, I see neither. I see two human beings struggling to grow up.
Will they have a chance to be president because of thier family heritage? I hope not, I hope if they had that chance it was based on the merits of their lives, not on thier skin color, or the shape of their eyes.
Thank Ty for sharing your thoughts, as well as reading my poem. This poem is not about anyone voting for someone simply because of the color of their skin. I don't know why some people can see it, and others can't. This poem has received mixed reviews, although some take it differently than others, it is a poem about pride and hope!
That's all, just pride and hope!
Peace & Blessings!~Antoinette
