We are very believing in England, and our eating habits were conservative at the time, I did not eat a beefburger until I was 15!

I was brought up in a meat heating house, but one that did not venture into anything other than that was thought of as very traditional English food...... nothing that might have a hint of "different". Cottage pie, meat pie, chips and egg, gammon steak, pork chop, roast chicken, apple pie, tinned peaches or mandarins plus a few other things, but not a great deal more.
Beefburgers were something that only came from "Birdseye" and were frozen!
The first one I ate was at a friends house, her mothers was amazed that I had not eaten one before. I thought it was very nice, knowing what I know now.... yucky.

I think if you rear animals and eat them it takes a lot of something, it's easy to go to a supermarket and buy the meat all wrapped up, so it's not recognisable that it was once a living breathing creature, with feelings and emotions. Most people who eat meat would not kill their meat if they had too to enable them to have meat.
I don't think man will ever stop killing man until he has compassion towards all life and does not kill any of it. I feel the same about insects too.

That generation think very differently to ours, they believed they were doing right, if I had wanted to be a vegetarian whilst I was living at home I would not have been allowed to.

That's good, I wish everyone felt the same.

I did not watch it on the TV for two reasons, I would have been too young to understand and we did not have a TV until years later!
A friend of my mothers told me the story, when I was about 12 years old, I believed him for years and years until I was well into my teens, when someone told me otherwise. We were all so much more innocent in those days.... I have strong views that it's up to us adults to maintain the innocents of children, though there are some unfortunate children that have their innocents robbed from them.
