Even as a little girl , I was interested in the issues that no one could give me an answers to* smile *
That interest has continued, even if the answers are not so many more now. But today I have a name for my interest, namely philosophy:) So far I have come.

I do not know if this is the right forum for these my thoughts.
Since the majority here has such a strong faith in God, that it does not leave much over for me in my philosophical discussions.
The big questions are already answered by God. In him is also the point of everything.
What is then left to speculate about ?

In any case, my old life reflections on these unanswered questions, I will ask here. I hope that someone is interested to ventilate them, although we have not key

Her comes the first ones *smile*

1.Can there be a meaning in life without believing in a God?

2.Is there any concepts that can be true to everyone? If the answer is no. Does that mean there is no absolute truth?

3.And what conclusion can we draw from that statement?

Really No

2.Is there any concepts that can be true to everyone? If the answer is no. Does that mean there is no absolute truth?

The only absolute truth is God and nothing is true after Him.

3.And what conclusion can we draw from that statement?

I see that the only conclusion is to submit ourselves to God and no other hope for us except by this submission to God.
there can be meaning in life without believing in a religion...or the whole religious concept of who god is in these religions.
i think there are absolute truths but we all have different paths in finding them.
as individuals on different paths in different places affecting different people we are all unique.
i do believe that all humans are connected and that collective consciousness affects all.

Yup, I agree on all that joni..:)

Along our different paths in lifes journey to finding these absolute truths ..many will come to believe in different -truths,perhaps the same with different terms or words to describe perhaps the same "truths"
Absolute truth can only involve God as he is the absolute truth.

While I accept this is a tautology for me there can be no truth without a belief in God.

Were I to propose for a moment that I could construct a meaningful philosophy without the theological connection I would find the edifice would collapse as soon as I had to study the philosophy of ethics. Within the study of ethics I have to take into account the fact that all my actions are subject to a final judgement and therefore I must have been given some notion as to how to define the idea of the Good Life. When I look into the black hearts of so many of my fellow humans and look at the terrible things they do to each other often in the name of their belief system I realise that any human constructed form of ethics will fail due to the innate failings of the human being. We are hard wired to fail and fall short of anything approaching the idea of Good. When I look hard at the dark corners of my own heart I know only too well that I need to have the notion of Good defined for me as I would be incapable of formulating any system that works...or if I could i would be unable to live up to the lofty principles I set myself.

I therefore have to look outside of myself for the inception of good as a substantive relativity. I do not follow the idea of deconstructionism as so many do as I see it leading down a blind alley...once you have deconstructed the concepts behind the rational you are in fact left with very little as the experiment known as Schrödinger's cat has shown. And post deconstructionism paints an even more bleak landscape where the real can no longer be defined as rational or concrete.

I was classically trained and therefore read all the great Greeks as part of my university days half a century ago. What I realised then and realise now when I pick up a tome on philosophy is that human defined good is not good enough and only when we start to replace our notion of Good with the Divine interpretations of Good can we start to make sense of how life 'should' or 'ought' to be...and I use the moral imperative wisely here as we have been repeatedly down the centuries been sent messengers from the Divine source which we ignore at our peril.

I spent many decades trying to argue with God...but He won. Only He can define any construct for the meaning of Good that stands up to all enquiries of the philosophic mind...and I have shelves groaning under the weight of these people's words but I return each time to the commandments as laid down by the prophet Mosses and relayed onward through history by all great prophets and thinkers. And only in the basic requirements as laid down as Good by God can I find the order and system that will stand rigorous questioning.
1.Can there be a meaning in life without believing in a God?

I don't know. If we do not believe in a God, can we still be happy in our lives? Why not? Maybe we believe in something else? It could be Buddha, Devi (hindu triple goddess), Hecate (wiccan triple goddess) Allah, God, Brahman, a tree, a rock, an animal etc. So if we find a connection to something divine through any of these, then maybe we can find happiness (meaning). What does that mean though? Is the rock, or the animal, the divine itself (or God?). Again, I don't know. All I can say is what I believe, and that is that whatever we choose as a deity, we can connect with a higher force, that may guide us.

If we don't believe in any of those things, then maybe we just believe in being "good" or "happiness" - maybe these too can be our connection with all of life in the universe, or what some call God?

"Split a piece of wood and I am there. Lift up a stone and you will find me".

For me personally, I do not see God/the divine etc as something or someone separate from me. To me, we are all God/Spirit/Soul, and the human body is a manifestation of that energy. The feeling of separateness is something created in the intellectual mind, the rational, theoretical male-brain (which both men and women have). I can only guess that we have ended up with this feeling of separation for a reason - I guess that the reason is so that soul and spirit can experience this "separation", and wake us all up to it, so that it never happens again.

2.Is there any concepts that can be true to everyone? If the answer is no. Does that mean there is no absolute truth?

Hard to say Gunilla. I could say, for example:

- Killing is wrong
- Stealing is wrong
- Cheating on a partner is wrong

Who would disagree with those? Am sure there are some who would. But most would agree on those things being wrong. I'd regard that as being true for most people, including me.

3.And what conclusion can we draw from that statement?

It suggests that most people know the difference between right and wrong. That doesn't sound like a concept though does it? It sounds more like something that we just know and feel to be right, and so is beyond concepts. Where does that knowing/feeling come from? I think it comes from our intuition. I also don't think our intuition is "in our heads". I think it is in our "minds", which are not in our heads either. I think the brain is just a "receiver" or "processor", and this intuitive wisdom/truth comes from the source of all life in the universe.

Words like truth and absolute truth are man-made words I think. It is possible that we simply cannot understand reality through the use of the intellectual mind. Maybe we have to connect to something higher and more intuitive to get the answers?

I love to see that so many have taken part in this discussion. *smile*
I have to read your long and well devolpped comments again before I can participate
and I have to fix my computer. But I hope they will find a solution..Soon

Hope the discussion will go on and hope to join you soon.
And thank you all for your engagement
Thank you for this discussion gunilla.. like you I have had the same interests, similar questions,a "question everything" mindset since earliest childhood..and concluded many answers, still I question so much...
My personal" opinion "answers gunilla:
1. YES!
2.I think in some areas are but a few absolute truths, the basic foundations of what is proven are well, the planet is not flat, the earth revolves around our sun,etc..
I have many beliefs that are "absolute" truths,to ME..many many theories of possibilities..but with an open mind, I see most as possibilities, others are such a part of who I Am,what I was born "knowing' ,have personally experienced..such as -seeing spirits or souls of animals,of my grandmother after she passed away ,that I absolutely believe in the soul & the souls of animals. I don't believe in "heaven" (or hell) as portrayed in biblical terms but DO believe in the "other side" which I consider HOME. To me to leave this body,or pass away,to die -is to leave this existence and go/return home.
I have seen, remembered past lives,so I believe in reincarnation. I am an "old" soul.
I have been astral projecting, traveling in my sleep since childhood..so this is part of my beliefs.
I have had visions of things before they happen ( also past & present) since childhood, again another part of my beliefs..
3. All our conclusions will be different,as we all are individuals that have many varying beliefs..:)
Sure makes for interesting diversity and far less boring world,eh?
it sure does :)
