First state in the world to abolish the capital punishment was, 30 November 1786, the Granducato of Tuscany ( Firenze -Italy ) with the emanation of the new criminal code from Tuscany (criminal Reform Tuscany or Leopoldina) signed from granduca Peter Leopoldo (become then Leopoldo II of the Sacred Roman Empire); such day is regional festivity in Tuscany. If it is considered the abolition factual ,the state more ancient abolitionist is the Saint Marino Republic ( actually still state eclave in Emilia Romagna - Italy ) , still existing: the last official execution laughed them to 1468, while the definitive abolition was sanctioned in law in 1865.
