Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry Fraser wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn. cheap nfl jerseys china .ca! Kerry, In Tuesday nights game between the Jets and Bruins, the Jets were pressing and had the Bruins on a long shift when the Bruins iced the puck. During that flurry, a Bruins defenceman (I believe it was Adam McQuaid) took a shot off the leg and was shaken up, but kept playing.  After the Bruins iced the puck, McQuaid came off and Zdeno Chara came on in his place.  I understand that 81.4 - Line Change on Icing - states: "...However, a team shall be permitted to make a player substitution to replace a goalkeeper who had been substituted for an extra attacker, to replace an injured player, or when a penalty has been assessed which affects the on-ice strength of either team..." Can you explain how the referee determines when a player can change for this reason? From my point of view, the rule makes sense if the player was on the ice and play was going to be whistled dead imminently, or was injured just prior to the puck being iced. In this case however, the Bruins D-man had the option of staying on the ice which would have eventually drawn a whistle, but instead deemed himself fit to keep playing, and kept playing for quite a while until the puck was iced. Logic would seem to dictate that if he was fit to keep playing prior to the icing call, he should be fit to play after the icing call.Thanks, - Jeremie, Winnipeg, MB Jeremie: Ruling on a play of this nature really puts the referee in an awkward position when called upon to play doctor to determine if a player has sustained an injury and is able to continue. I have to first state that hockey players are really tough athletes and generally play through all sorts of pain.  There are times when they block out, or are oblivious to the pain sustained on a play in order to prevent their opponent from scoring. You have to admire that kind of determination and willingness to put themselves at risk for the good of the team. Most often they just wont quit on a play unless the bone is through the skin! When the play has been completed and the adrenalin rush subsides, if the player informs the referee that he sustained an injury, there is little alternative but to trust the player as a man of his word.  If the referee refuses this request it places him in a very tenuous position. Lets assume that the player is forced to remain on the ice by the referee and is unable to properly defend through a lack of mobility and the puck ends up in the back of the net. Where does the negative attention and focus shift to? Of course, to the referee who was asked to play doctor. The consequences of a missed diagnosis are too severe. Take this one step further and assume that Adam McQuaid was subsequently unable to participate in the game as a result of the injury he sustained blocking a shot.  Many times we have seen a fracture result from being hit by the puck even though they continued to play or even finished the game. In the end, it is the referees best course of action to allow for one player to change where it is apparent that a player has been injured.  This would also be true if a players skate broke and he was unable to participate. The best course of action is to trust the player and not place him at further risk of injury, allow for one replacement and get the face-off conducted as quickly as possible. Thats just what the doctor ordered and the answer to your question, Jeremie. nfl jerseys china . Seven straight wins to get into the playoffs under midseason replacement Bruce Boudreau in 2008. Winning eight of 10 last year under Dale Hunter after Boudreau was fired. PHILADELPHIA -- Back in the ballpark where he used to be an ace, Randy Wolf shut down his former team and outpitched the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner. Wolf tossed six crisp innings, Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee homered and the Milwaukee Brewers beat Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 Tuesday night. The Brewers became the first team to win a series against the NL East-leading Phillies this season. Theyll try to complete a three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon when Cliff Lee takes the mound for Philadelphia. Wolf (2-2) allowed two hits, struck out five and walked three against his former team. The left-hander had his best seasons with Philadelphia in the early 2000s, and was an all-star in 03. "It was tough early on. I didnt have my best stuff," Wolf said. "I tried to mix speeds a lot and I think I kept them off balance." Jimmy Rollins had a bunt single in the first and Shane Victorino hit a double in the third for the Phillies only hits of the game. Sean Green, Zach Braddock and Mike McClendon each pitched an inning after Wolf left. "I had really good defence behind me," Wolf said. "Theyre a dangerous team. You dont want to let them get something going." Halladay (2-1) gave up six runs and 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings. It was his worst start since he allowed six runs in six innings in a loss at the New York Yankees last June 15. Halladay tossed a complete game at Washington last Wednesday, needing 123 pitches to do it. He got an extra day rest because of a rainout, but still wasnt as sharp as usual. "I felt good. There were times early when there were a couple pitches that cost me that werent where I wanted them," Halladay said. Halladay retired the first two batters in the second before running into trouble against the bottom of the lineup. Yuniesky Betanncourt doubled to deep right-centre. cheap nfl jerseys. With the pitcher on deck, Halladay fell behind in the count 3-1 to George Kottaras before grooving a fastball. Kottaras ripped an RBI single to right for a 1-0 lead. The Brewers got another two-out run in the third when Braun hit an opposite-field shot to right. Braun then made an outstanding play in the bottom half to rob Rollins of extra bases and save at least one run. With runners on first and second, Rollins hit a drive to deep left. Braun made a leaping, backhanded grab at the warning track after a long run. "We were gonna score some runs there," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He made a tremendous catch." Braun got things started in the sixth with a walk. He moved to second on Prince Fielders single and scored on Mark Kotsays one-out single. Fielder chased Halladay with an RBI single that extended Milwaukees lead to 4-0. David Herndon entered and allowed McGehees three-run shot. "Hes the best pitcher in baseball and we put together some good at-bats against him," Braun said of Halladay. "You dont want to get behind. You try to be patient, but not overly patient." NOTES: The Brewers have four shutouts among their nine wins. ... A crowd of 45,408 was the 146th consecutive sellout at Citizens Bank Park, including post-season play. ...
