Is morality just another word for "brain washing"?

we often point the finger at certain groups or individuals as being hindrances or down right obstacles to peace. But, are they really evil? Or is it possible that these destroyers of peace believe they have a noble calling? The concept of morality is relative to our own experience and much of that experience comes from the rights and wrongs our parents will teach us, teachers will instruct us, and these days, the media and Hollywood will show us. As we try to differentiate ourselves from our surroundings, we may take a different road, but possibly with the same strategies, or, we may take the same road but with different strategies.

If we are to achieve peace in the fastest way, we must influence the influencers, those who have influence on the minds and the significance of the youth. But this cannot be a fight of good against evil, since evil and good are relative to so many issues, this must be a vision of unity for all, good and evil do not play here.

If we focus on movies, on schools, on cartoons, on the education of families, and concentrate on the youth (whos minds can be molded to a greater purpose),' our efforts will be rewarded 10 fold. But who are we to wield such power, as individuals, we are week, but as a unified groups, we can change the world

Morality is eagerly required but rarely found. I think the return back to the peace present in all religions will solve the problem.

I am with arthur on this. first we have to let go of being judgemental. to be "moral" is to judge. instead, we should focus on experiencing the inner beauty because we are all children of the Most Beautiful One, call Him by whatever name. since most of us are influenced strongly re: who God is and that ironically can cause conflict:) it is much easier to focus on values because they are common to all people and an expression of our beautiful spirit. Think of as many religions as you can and reduce it to its values and you know what I mean.

I will go with education and expressing that in an entertaining and neutral manner. any medium that reaches out will be fine.

I believe that we can't be influenced. We resonate with what is deep within us. If we are displaying negative tendencies, it is because at that moment in our life, we resonate with those. But, at the core we are peaceful spiritual beings. It takes a critical mass to display such inner beauty to turn every single being on earth around. I have read that critical mass is one million. One million angels on earth will make this world go round very very peacefully.

I suggest that we do all have the capacity for good or evil, and if you have read any of my books, you will know i advocate that it is our environment that brings out either the Best or the Worst of Who We Are. Cultivate an environment of Peace for those around us, and they will do the same, the obstacles do exist, but we cannot gather the masses, we can make a difference, even if its one at a time.

I feel there has to be caring parents and to have them teach there kids so far it will take change make a differences some parents here don't use other respects for other people the kids today seems to do what they want and go when they want
as parents they should give there kids a moral respect to teach them.. most parents don't pay much attention cause they
are always working and not thinking about them now a days some children do what they please. The American way of life is mostly what they call the freedom to do what they want with out any rules a parent will not set down. some working parents don't have the time for there children. no more there has to be change. be fore society becomes better for peace in there world..

Thanks for raising this. Parents need to show by example the values needed in leading a meaningful and purpose-filled life. However, if the parents themselves are not leading such lives, where do children draw their inspiration and guidance? In my area of work, we turn to educators and other adults in a child's life. First, they have to work on themselves to be the models for children.

Personally, I feel a great number of adults of this generation need to work on themselves and get their values aligned to their beautiful, core nature first. That will be the greatest favour they will be doing for themselves and the children of now and future.

According to Bruce Lipton, during the first six years of life a child unconsciously acquires the behavioral repertoire needed to become a functional member of society. In addition, a child's subconscious mind also downloads beliefs relating to self. When a parent tells a young child it is stupid, undeserving or any other negative trait, this too is downloaded as a 'fact' into the youngster's subconscious mind. These acquired beliefs constitute the 'central voice' that controls the fate of the body's cellular community. While the conscious mind may hold one's self in high regard, the more powerful unconscious mind may simultaneously engage in self-destructive behavior.

To this, add the media messages that children are exposed to as parents use TV as a baby sitter. Violence and negative images are so prevalent. Can you think of a news bulletin without violence?

Question: How many parents/adults of today have been negatively programmed as children? As one of my friends and spiritual guide Denise Lawrence, creator of Spiritual Values prog shared, this world will become a more values-based, ethical and spiritual place when adults admit to themselves that they have gone astray and do something about it.

I can speak with authority on this because I started on my values-based journey in 1989 and plan to continue on it till I pass on. ....

most parents do care, but are unaware of the effects their actions, or inaction, have on their children. educate parents in "effect" and they WILL care more intelligently.

and i also agree with Guenter, in that morality is man made, yet we as human beings need meaning in our lives and thus, to facilitate that meaning, we have created for our peace of mind, structure manifested in morality and religion.
