Do you GIVE more than you GET? Edited discussion on Dec. 22

or
do you GET more than you GIVE?

JUST ADDED ON Dec. 22
If you keep getting and getting things, money, help, phonecalls, rides to places, attention, kindness, invitations and don't do these things back to others, how do you feel about it, ok? Do you think "if others want to do these things for me, and I don't reciprocate, what's the problem?"

Hi Steph,

I wanted to add something at this discussion:
"I always thought giving without expecting anything back was wisdom, so I did"
But I was wrong; I don't care much for material things, but a kind word of a friend means the world to me"!
Just sometimes...not always.
Giving means everything to me ; it can really feel lucky everyday by giving and helping.

Your friend in Holland,

Hans
Hi Steph,

The last one , it's getting late......
This is a true story.

I just became 53 and I met some wonderful friends all around the world including you.
This is the greatest gift I could receive.

A true story

Once I was a child of about 12 years old; circumstances were the cause that I was raised by my uncle and aunt.
I was always drawing in a backroom; my uncle being a very good drawer showed every time, when he received visitors my latest drawings to the public and said;
"Look at this, he can draw better than I can"!
This was't true; he could draw like a master and I still have drawings from him from 1938!

My uncle had an eye for encouraging talent.
Once I was with him at the hospital at the same room and my uncle being rich gave without asking his wallet to a man who said : "I have nothing to give my children"
He said: "Take it, I don't want to know what's inside of it'
He died in 1983 and I still miss him very much like my aunt also.

The point is: "Nothing has changed"!

I'm still a little child painting this time in the backroom..
I became a little famous in Italy and in the USA.
I miss these people so much, I would like to tell that to them!

Hoping I was not to sentimental,

Feeling rich whith a friend like you.

Notte from Holland,

Hans

did you leave this for Ray on this page on purpose? About giving and getting?
Have a rich day
I know you will
Stephanie
Nice to know that I missed something that is floating in space - especially if it was something to pollute space. There's enough pollution already out there.
Negative thoughts must be expressed very carefully. But that is another topic (so easy to get off topics here!)
Steph
I have to say, what I get is something wonderful from the act of giving. I would much rather give than receive. To give without the hopes of reciprocation is the ultimate in generosity.
Simple and beautiful. Thanks ClodVan Tam

just sent you a long message to this one but it disappeared when I deleted a photo (too large)
All good positive thoughts towards you
Will get back later
love
Steph
Positive thoughts - we need more and more of them everyday. Thanks - and I understand about the dog biscuits - when I'm out walking I stop and help kids who are afraid of dogs to not be afraid of mine (she's as big as a cat). It only takes a few minutes, but works every time.
I give alot ...time,money, talent, heart
But I seem to recieve so much more back than what I give...it seems like nomatter how much I give, I seem to recieve back more, from all around me.

So I feel that when you plant seeds of your time, money, love, talents, thoughts, smiles, hugs, encouagement, peace, ETC.

IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU.:)

You can see that you give, look at your incredible giving smile!! And what a positive message, thanks for sharing it. If only others would feel the same, there are so many people who lack positive qualities like this. Stephanie
Oh this is a wonderful discussion, thank you all so very much. I had to search something out so I used the words "seeds of peace" as sometimes the vigorous debates here get a bit too vigorous and I am not sure that I want to engage in them. Every day I try to give of my self and my art. Today, I donated some of the proceeds of my etsy shop to the domestic violence out reach office and two bags of clothes to an international drop box. Yesterday I shipped a package to the children of Gaza. I have been fortunate as well. Many times things come my way just when I need them. I don't keep score on if I get more than I give. I just am a basically good person and good things come my way generally. When bad things do come my way, which does happen sometimes, I feel that I have the strength to deal with it or learn from it.
I find that it is never good to hold on to bad feelings for long. ... that just taints an otherwise good life. So it is good to learn from bad things or use the energy to help others grow from bad experiences or to overcome oppression. Holding on to bad things is disempowering. When you are disempowered you get into some sort of victim mindset and you do not get very far. Today I drew a picture of a wall with heart shaped cracks that progressively looked like whole hearts with flowery vines growing through them.
I think that I got off track, sorry.
Here is a happy story:
At one point I was working several part time jobs, as I walked along a city street to one job I thought I could really use a watch. At that very moment, I looked on the ground and there was a perfectly good watch in a puddle. I was stunned and stared at it for a bit. Some one came along and said "Oh you found a watch pick it up." So I did and the watch served me well. A year later I traded it in Negril, Jamaica for some oranges
