We, as concerned Australian Jews and Palestinians declare our horror at the violence and bloodshed occurring in and around the Gaza Strip.
We join the many thousands who have raised their voice in protest against the current escalation of violence, which can only lead to further loss of life, suffering and an increase of the conflict.
Prospects for peace depend on resurrecting the value of dialogue and negotiation. History has shown that for entrenched cycles of violence to end, a willingness to meet in the spirit of common humanity is required. Realising these goals depends on a peace-enhancing culture replacing the current preoccupation with violence and war. Only changed attitudes will enhance the possibilities of a ceasefire and a subsequent peace with justice and security for the Palestinians and for the Israelis.
We urge the Israeli and Palestinian Leaders to respect human life and immediately end the current cycle of violence, in order to create an environment that is safe and secure for all. We urge them to negotiate a new truce that brings peace and security on both sides of the border and an end to the siege and associated suffering being experienced both in and around the Gaza Strip.
We urge all world leaders and people in Australia and the world, to work with them to bring about a peaceful outcome.
Enough violence, enough killing and enough suffering. It's time to listen, to hear and to talk to one another.
