So far hundreds of civilians have been killed in Gaza. Five sisters in one family, four other children in another home, two children on a cart drawn by a donkey. Universities, colleges, police stations, roads, apartment buildings were all targeted. The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian areas issued a statement that "The Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip represent s evere and massive violations of international humanitarian law as defined in the Geneva Conventions, both in regard to the obligations of an Occupying Power and in the requirements of the laws of war."

Twenty things to do to bring peace with justice:

1) First get the facts and then disseminate them. Here are some basic background information
http://www.btselem.org/english/Gaza_Strip
http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article4933.shtml
http://www.mepeace.org/forum/topics/the-true-story-behind-this-war The true story behind this war
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/downloads/If%20Gaza%20falls.pdf If Gaza Falls
http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article10055.shtml Gaza massacres must spur us to action

2) Contact local media. Write letters to editors (usually 100-150 words) and longer op-eds (usually 600-800 words) for local newspapers. But also write to news departments in both print, audio, and visual media about their coverage. In the US http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/ You can find media listings in your country using search engines like google

3) Organize and join demonstrations in front of Israeli and Egyptian embassies or when not doable in front of your parliament, office of elected officials, and any other visible place (and do media work for it).

4) Hold a teach-in, seminar, public dialogue, documentary film viewing etc. this is straightforward: you need to decide venue, nature, if any speakers, and do some publicity (the internet helps).

5) Pass out flyers with facts and figures about Palestine and Gaza in your community (make sure also to mention its relevance to the audience: e.g, US taxpayers paying for the carnage, increase in world instability and economic uncertainty)

6) Put a Palestinian flag at your window.

7) Wear a Palestinian head scarf (Koufiya)

8) Wear Black arm bands (this helps start conversations with people)

9) Send direct aid to Gaza through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). http://www.un.org/unrwa/

10) Initiate boycotts, divestments and sanctions at all levels and including asking leaders to expel the Israeli ambassadors (an ambassador of an apartheid and rogue state). See Palestinian call http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article10056.shtml

11) Work towards bringing Israeli leaders before war crime courts (actions along those lines in courts have stopped Israeli leaders from traveling abroad to some countries like Brigtai9n where they may face charges)

12) Calling upon all Israelis to demonstrate in front of their war ministry and to more directly challenge their government

13) Do outreach: to neighbors and friends directly. Via Internet to a lot of others (you can join and post information to various listservs/groups).

14) Start your own activist group or join other local groups (simple search in your city with the word Palestine could identify candidate groups that have previously worked on issues of Palestine). Many have also been successful in at bringing coalitions from different constituencies in their local areas to work together (human rights group, social and civil activists, religious activists, etc).

15) Develop a campaign of sit-ins at government offices or other places where decision makers aggregate

16) Do a group fast for peace one day and hold it in a public place

17) Visit Palestine

18) Support human rights and other groups working on the ground in Palestine

19) Make large signs and display them at street corners and where ever people congregate.

20) Contact local churches, mosques and other houses of worship and ask them to take a moral stand

Majed, Salaam/Shalom,

I wonder why it is that i am not critical about your post which is quite political and judgemental. You do wrie a lot about what to do FOR Palestinians..and this is important.

But, it also is judgemental and points the finger of blame in one direction ONLY

When members here try to explain why they feel that certain Palestian leadership is to blame - we all (me included) tell them to quiet down..

I wonder why i don't feel the same now.

Are you just more "diplomatic"?
Maybe i agree more with you??
Maybe i feel guilty for the actions of my government even if i am not sure they had another choice?
Maybe I don't have enough national pride as an Israeli?

I wonder why.
Dear Majed,
thanks to have indicated how to help Palestinian people of Gaza. I envoyed this list at many conctats and Italian Pelestinian organisations who shares in many manners. I'll envoy also to our Italian EU parlamentary Luisa Morgantini.
And thanks ti M.Renee Orth for the initiative in Facebook.
Vittorio Arrigoni in Gaza, every day phones giving notices, photos, reportages. Today photos of many killed children. We pray for them and for mothers and fathers. He also collects money for Palestinian.
You are not alone. Courage!

Myron,
why the problem? All we have different visions and the best of i.Peace is to tell us free, listening all different opinions and positions. So, our vision may becomes larger. So we may understand each other better. The question is not to have only one opinion (the conventionally, perhapes), but to learn to stay well and with a peacefull heart into conflits (the reality of democracy: once, we have the Governement voted, another we have the Governement not voted. And the same in the other Nations and lands) looking them as a resorse of better comprensions, knowledge, and to learn to listen, to understand, to compartecipate, to cooperate, for a larger coscience! With those steps we really see in other not an enemy or a friend or a neutral, but alwaysa a man, a child, a woman like us; we experiment the possibility to become "We are all One" (today uthopic, but we have to decide to stay in this road always, to mantain this direction). We help us also with Human Rights for not lost this road and to realize in experimentation what today we see quite impossible but is not impossible if we open vision with self hearth. We have to change self and become human!
Perhapes it shall be interesting to you to read: http://www.rete-eco.it/, with some writes also in English, from Jewish net against occupation.
May we all build a peacefu: (for all) 2009 year!

To those who replied here, asking me questions...my apologies for no responding. I was at the Peace Cafe today..(and talking to Majed on the phone)

The Jewish Sabbath starts soon and i must go off line until Saturday night.

In short I hope the world will support the common interests of the Israelis and Palestinians. And this can only be done if all those who want to influence take into account the fears, the anxieties and the rights of all sides. (All of us, in Israel and in Palestine and in the neighboring countries have a lot of work to do.)

As i heard one Israeli say to a Palestinian at the Peace Cafe today..Your Freedom is my Freedom. This is what we must tell each other.
Myron - thanks for sharing your feelings and thoughts ...opening up to our shared humanity...
You can do a lot for peace.
It is so simple (an old Indian saying): "don't judge anyone unless you have walked in his mokassins for a month!"
Be on the side of every human has the same dignity and rights
Think about it when you hear about 'security' - just imagine what security have Palestinians had during the past 60 years?
what rights?
what dignity?
and try to dig out the truth - so obscured by decades of myths repeated over and over again - otherwise would 85 % of Israelis vote for war to go on?
Maybe the attached articles helps?

May all people of good will join hands to stop this so unbalanced 'war'!

Dear All,

My initial respond to Majed may be misunderstood. I am sorry for it.
I was trying to say that i respect his limited and what i consider misinformed view much more that i accept the views of more informed people like Jennifer Lowevenstein.

I accept his view more not because he has less resources, or because he is so deeply effected by this tragedy, but because he totally lacks the negative stance of many people who think they are Pro-Palestinian but invest most of their efforts at being anti-Israeli.

There are so many mistakes and bad things that Israel has done that it is really not a problem to criticize..and criticize we must.

But the terrible situation, i fear, stems from deeper problems that go back to 1948 and beyond. Problems that can only be dealt with through mutual acceptance and respect.

This means that both peoples must believe in the future..so that they will be willing to make the moves that will fulfill the national and human rights of all in this region.

Israelis seem to be caught in a honest desire for Peace and a fear of it at the same time. The fear has always been the dominant force, perhaps fueled not only by the actual and vociferous threats of our adversaries, but internally as well.

Over the years there have been changes in the Arab world and in Israel, such that coming to a solution that recognizes Palestinian rights seem possible. (Note that between 1948 and 1967 no one was helping the Palestinians either. They were then occuppied by Jordan and Egypt).

So, it is people like Majed who are the real heros. Who are open to learn more about the past..but not in order to use it as weapon in the ongoing debate. He wants to better understand Israel and his own People so that we can build a better future.

It is my mission to show my fellow israelis that there are people like Majed..who cry out for justice and their rights and who accept ours.
Myron,
1) speaking about the Palestinian's necessity of today, is not to speak against Israeliti people!
2) once are peoples, once are Governements.
3) here, we generally speak with i:Peace persons and we take in mind every persons in thrue is looking for selfpeace and for build bridge of peace
4) responsability is in grown ourself to, once, are able to change opinion in every our land in a bigger opinion and view with universal values, and so to look for changing in armonious possibility of life where every peoples are listen, recognized, respected.
5) we need to oipen heart and to learn how to run correctly conflits as resources (and not problems that close views and rapports) for the Best Good of the maximum number of persons in Earth, every times more and more learning and living Right Relations. Not the maximum number of person of only a people, land, Nation.
6) mistakes are corrigible: if they are of a Government, we, people of peace, have to work hardly, with patient, continually, always united, to stop them when possible. Its important to change the common opinion (and Government know this importance, giving embedded informations)
For Israel now, I personally think, you, people of peace, have to work hardly to obtain freedom of coscience fot the young don't wont to go military. Once it was also in Italia: obtained, those youngs went to pacific works building harmony and so in time get up all the volunteer associations and common habit to comprehend, cooperate and compartecipate, every days with a larger vision and Good Will.
7) I hope, you, Israeli people of peace, to change your mind about the complex (if there is still in you) to be judged and not acceptated and persecuted.
Personally, I 'm not Jewish but in all my life I had and I have Jewish friends and I value much not because Jewish but because excellent men, women, children. In the 2° War in my family I had persons persecuted from Regim and killed and exiliated and also deported. Is for this I say: "Remember us each other to stay human". And, in Italia when Government decided out of our Constitution, we say "Not in my name!" and we go to square to strike.
8) please, help us to stay as builder of peace, saying "Not in my name!".
Personally I am schoked for the difference of arms and reactions between Israely Army and Palestinian Army...its like a tunny-massacre! And it's for this we have all to stay in peace vigilant working for human help in mind always bridge of peace!
I feel the pain of Palestinian people and I feel desperation of people of peace of Palestinian and of Israeli.
Sorry my bad English, hope to explained correctly.
Courage, people of peace! We are a people over Nations, because we are all One!
Smiles of peace to all Luisella

Thanks for notice about Majed.
Luisella,

i agree with many many points you raise. i too feel the pain and desparation.

I can not be a pacifist..For too many years and decades Israel's right to exist was questioned. Force of all sorts has been used against us..

The Palestinians are fighting for a State. They deserve a free and independant state. Israel's right to exist, sadly, depends on an Army and on fighting.

You are right that we have a big obligation to push our government in other directions..to become part of a proces based on peace plans offered by the international community, and thank G-d, more recenlty by the Arab world as well.

Sadly, the Palestinian people have suffered with leadership (Government??) that has done too much to keep the flames going.

I am sad that too many people in Israel are happy (although worried) patriots. I would prefer more sad and distressed patriots who feel real pain at what price this situation is taking from us and from the Palesitinians.
Yes, it's indispensable for the International community to recognize two Nations: Palestinian Nation with his territory united, Israeli Nation.
But today we have the humanitarian urgence! In Gaza people are dieing, and we have to act quickly! In this moment, first is to save lifes.
