I recently went back to the old village where I grew up as a boy in the 1960's to see what changes had taken place there during the past 40 years or so. Mind you, I left India at the end of 1978 and had been in Europe till 2003 when I took the decision of re-locating to my country of birth. The one thing I straightaway noticed about Ernakulam in Kochi(which now has been transformed from a beautiful, green, tranquil town with quality life into a dusty, metro with a modern mechanical life) is the damage done to our enviornment. This small video clip was taken in a village called Maradu(it was an idealic village years ago with paddy fields, village lanes and plenty of vegitation) when I noticed my sister in law throwing bread crumbs for these
lovely creatures in the morning. As all the tree's in the surrounding areas are systamatically destroyed by people constructing houses, flats etc these God's Creations are under severe pressure in order to survive. It is sad to see the colourful woodpecker forced to come down and hunt for food amoungst those thrown by some considerate people!
