I believe that its important for us to be able to seek peace within ourselves. Beyond that, I believe that many people need help finding peace. In my opinion, this peace isn't only in the conventional sense of non-violence, but this peace is a concept that unites communities and allows everyone to feel like a welcome member of society. Some people need help finding this peace since they may have been denied it growing up, or are scared to interact in their communities due to cultural, language or religious barriers.
I agree that we need to find this peace within ourselves, and then help transform the world by helping others find their peace as well.
I did the talk this weekend at my Spiritual Living Center, about Atma-vichara, or the practice of Self-enquiry. By asking ourselves "Who am I?" and going deep within, we discover that we already ARE Peace, Love and Harmony. Under all the crap that we think about ourselves, under all the labels of gender, nationality, religion, etc, there already exists the Self-awareness of Who We Are in the eternal sense. That Self-awareness, once we KNOW it, is the source of self-acceptance and inner harmony.
When we KNOW that Self (w/ a cap S), we are able to see it in everyone else and that becomes the source of Peace between people, which is the way that we build and expand into peace between nations. When we realize that we are the same Source expressing Itself in and thru all people, how can we harm another? When I know that I AM One with the One and so are you, how can I judge you? How can I think any less of you? How can I NOT support you and love you and do what has to be done for your Highest Good and mine?
Who am I? Am I separate from you? No. I AM you in a different form with different experiences, but with the same Divine Essence at the core of Who We Are.
That is Peace. I AM Peace.
That is Love. I am Love.
That is Divine Truth. I am Divine Truth... and so are you. So is everyone.
Salaam, Shalom, Shanti, Peace
