“Thanks” – “Giving”
Thanksgiving, two words combined to make one, describing a holiday. I have for the last three plus weeks now watched bulletin after bulletin appear on myspace, “A Native American opinion of Thanksgiving” or “Christian opinion of Thanksgiving” or “Muslims and Thanksgiving” and “Native American the real Thanksgiving”, and I have held my peace so far.
Well now it is time to speak out! Why people do you think we still have racism in the 21st century? Because you hold on to the past and let it fester in your soul.
Thanksgiving, today has NOT a thing to do with pilgrims or Native Americans. It should not have anything to do with religion or race. It should be the two words taken together, “thanks” and “giving”.
You should take this day and give THANKS to the Creator for the blessings you have received this past year. Celebrate all that you have, not hold in contempt what was done hundreds of years in the past. That is the past and cannot be change, we can only move forward from here into the future.
Like for myself, I give thanks that I still have a place to live in this economy, my first grandson was born healthy and happy this year, there is food on my table and my family is not hungry. These and many other things I give thanks for.
So instead of reflecting on what “Thanksgiving” used to be or used to mean, why don’t you sit back and reflect on the real meaning, (giving thanks) and see what you truly have to be thankful for this year.
Just one man’s opinion. As always, put the wind in your hair and keep the sun to your back. Be good and stay safe. Peace, Love and prosperity to all.
Good Journeys !!!
