The beauty and the inherent meaning of cultural diversity

Dear friends,

have you ever asked yourselves why YOU SAY HELLO AS SUCH:

- in some cultures you SHAKE HANDS
- in some cultures you bow ( and bow.)
- in some cultures you fold your hands
- in some cultures you kiss ( once, twice, trice)
- in some cultures you rub your noses, in some you rub your backs, shoulders and arms
- in some cultures you agree by saying YES, in some by saying PERHAPS, in some by saying nothing, in some by "rocking" your head , what others may feel is rather a "no"
- in some cultures you are taught to be straight forward
- in some this is detestable, you should not "push" forward under no circumstance
- in some you say kind of YES whatever question comes, as it is much better to give a positive answer than a correct one
- in some cultures you smile while you are speaking WHATEVER YOU SAY ( it can be the death of your mother or the destruction of your house)

We could ALTOGETHER CREATE A LONG LONG LIST OF STRIKING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CULTURES.
All of these cultures have their pride, customs have their meaning, their cultural roots, AND ALL OF US CAN LEARN! Learning is not a on-way road... and I expect that you learn even more when you become wise.

You are most welcome to be part of this discussion.

Hi there,

I agree with you completely. Cultural diversity enriches people, and in addition, it enriches the wellfare of society.

It is a pity that xenophobia is predominant everywhere in the world.
Thank you Tinkie!

Have a nice evening,
Richard
i like this theme particularly because an anecdote that happened to my at my work place.i work with an arab boy.
He start to bothering me touching me when he speak to me,and sometimes like pushing me,and i felt that like "an invation of my physical camp".I'm able to express it like this because i read about it before, but no matter i got very angry and we discussed couple of time.
We where able to work together for a long now...He actually stopped touching me most of the time when he talk to me ...but i also understood that he is not so violent as i felt...i started realizing that he express himself like more physically,i mean compromising more his body when he express himself .
this was specially important for me because i was thinking :" i participate in IPEACE and i will make a war here by myself!!!"
Now he usually direct at me ,calling me as"cuqui",couse I call him " cucu"(means=crazy)I means that we are now
"CUCU and CUQUI"

Thank you, Clu, for sharing this anecdote with me.
It was very important to you, I hope and guess, to have had this experience. Otherwise you think there is only ONE TRUTH in the world, namely yours. But there are many , almost as many as people live on this planet. And as long as we can keep our inner (intellecutal) curiosity alive and striving, we shall open and widen our horizon. And if we do what you are describing doing: LIVING in another environment, we become more and more "bullet proof" against any cheap rhetorics, against any narrow minded hatred and the so common fear of the otherness.
Have a marvelous week ahead!
Richard
