I was young. Years ago. I had been travelling in Europe and in a youth hostel met a boy from Switzerland. He was going to a folkdance gathering in Rumania, in a town that was called Gallina.
I decided to go with him. I don't remember all the details, I just remember being on a bus taking us somewhere. And I remember after sleeping just a little, walking at 5am up a hill, in the dark, with only a flashlight leading we two and other people up up up, in a dense kind of woods to where the festivity would be.
We arrived. And there were hundreds of Rumanians...gathered, in their peasant clothing, simple people, speaking a language I didn't know.
It was wonderful. It was exciting.....there were people sitting and people standing....there were some cows too.
And there were no buildings whatsoever, and no toilets! When women had to "go to the toilet" other women stood around them, blocking them from the view of others, pulling their skirts wide so that they made a protective tent...one woman in the woman squatted, and no one saw. I think even that the clouds at times helped to block people's views from seeing her squat.
Then, the music began. And the dancing...there were long long long horns, that were blown into the echoes of the mountains. It was WONDERFUL. And I danced, I remember a young man with silver teeth asked me to dance with him.
I even have some photos of that day...somewhere. I danced folkdances when I was young, and loved foreign music, foreign instruments. I only now thought of the similarities I had when very young, of liking being in a group with people even if the possibility of communication was impossible. It was exciting for me. And I have vivid memories in my mind of it being one of the happiest days of my life.
FIDANZATI (boyfriend and girlfriend)
ITALIAN STYLE

You guessed it! The above is ITALIAN. It means when you are going together, dating, girlfriend and boyfriend.
It was years ago when Stephanie was young!
I had gotten to Italy, came to Perugia, met my husband-to-be at a party.
We liked each other, started to see one another. Before I knew it, I had myself an Italian boyfriend.
It was so romantic! He was so caring, taking me to see all of the wonderful things there were to see in this beautiful area, visit all the events including exciting races, parties in places in the hills and mountains nearby, skiing, underwater snorkeling, camping, hiking, dinners, picnics.....I had never had that kind of fun with a "boyfriend" in the USA.
It was super romantic and definitely one of the very very best times of my life, perhaps, the very best! Not just a day but years!

Marriage Ceremony
My kids, my son and daughter were 7 and 3 respectively. My husband and I were getting married that day. Off to City Hall to have the words said and make it all so official. The witnesses, our best friends stood by, our kids looking on not really understanding, or, so I thought.
We walked out of the courthouse into a bright sunshine day, all smiles and good cheer, I with our marriage licence in my hand. My son pleaded to hold the licence, and I asked him why.
"Because," he answered all innocence and sincerity. "now if you and Daddy die, they can't take me and Sissy to the orphanage."
I was stunned. This little seven year old boy was worried about going to an orphanage if we passed on. How long had that been on his little mind? How often had he thought of that in trepidation of the future? I could only guess. He held onto that licence until we arrived home and I showed him it would go into the lock box and be safe there. The subject was never brought up again, but I often think of the distress we must have caused the poor little guy with our not being married. I do not have or pretend to be preparing a lesson-story here. The only thing I will say is that sometimes things are deeply kept in our children's minds; things that we would be amazed to hear. We believe our littlest ones know nothing about our circumstances, but we need to think again.
That is a BEAUTY
and it is so true, don't you think Bertie?
what a story...powerful
really!!!
GOOD GOING!!! BEt you feel great about that, congratulations!
