This is something that I had wanted to write after Tree wrote last week about relationships, and having relationships before marriage.

I think that really, if there exist two subjects that are very difficult to talk about, due to the enormous differences in our upbringings, experiences, beliefs, desires, opinions, open-ness or closed-ness...those two subjects are sex and religion.

I am sure that all of us have been in a position where we either say too much, or hear too much and then...we find that someone in our presence is offended, embarassed, surprised, or in disagreement with our thoughts.

I was curious about these thoughts and asked my husband "If someone wanted to talk about these two subjects, what would you do, speak openly about them?" I was happy to hear that he said, with respect I feel, "No, everyone has a right to feel the way they want about these subjects. They are very personal viewpoints."

I agree.

I have been in the most varied groups of people ranging from very timid to overly exhuberant! Most of us have known people of all kinds.

So, unless a person is in the mood for a debate, it is playing it safe to not talk openly about these subjects unless you are willing to hear many viewpoints so different from your own.

I personally don't always have the energy to deal with more than I already am dealing with. I just don't want to.

I am used to making waves, but right now, my ship has been on the verge of tipping over, and I just don't want to rock the boat at the present time.

Anyhow....

these are some of my personal thoughts. And this time, they really are personal.

good video DK thanks!!
Sounds like a very heavy book to digest! You are quite well read DK in so many subjects.
Italy is really having a moment...a very heated moment politally, including many huge problemsin this field. It is like a really cruel book indeed.
I personally don't enjoy discussing religion, and never have. There are times that people push their thoughts on you, or in this case, you tried to get away and the priest almost forced you to shake hands...a handshake bringing people together, or saying that you were happy to hear what he was saying and you were agreeing on it with a handshake. These are my underlying thoughts...if you wanted to leave and couldn't do so easily, it was a bit of a force.
perhaps though, others would say I am sure, that he only wanted you to give his discussion a chance. But this is why I don't appreciate religions where they try to get you to see it their way...I am extremely sensitive about this (both being a very strong free thinker and of always a rebel : ) ).
I guess reading a lot helps one to come to conclusions, I just have my own very strong personal view which sort of turn me off to religion on the whole.
I respect traditions of each religion, and appreciate the culture, I just don't like each religion saying "this is how things should be done". Which doesn't make it easy for me discussing relgion, or something I like to do.
Feel free to reply to this however! But when certain religions come, especially, door to door to preach their way, I am very turned off to this. Or when I see people so devoted to going to church and I see that they are living totally different lives outside what they listen to in church, (and there is plenty of this here in Italy!!) then I think that they are really hypocrites.
Thanks for contributing your little story above, Irene, it was interesting.

No, I understood that he wasn't forcing you....but funny, sometimes even just a handshake gets a person to stop, rather than let them just walk away without a handshake.....
good line about the sheep.....
I enjoyed hearing about it, Irena....
take care
