What has the world come to ?

I was reading a story today from Little Rock Arkansas in the USA. a ten year old girl who didn't want to have a shower before bed started throwing a tantrum at her parents, I'm sure I've done this when I was a child. She kicked and screamed and curled up on the floor. The police were called to a "domestic dispute" at the home by neighbours who heard the child screaming. When they arrived they tried to pick up the child and once again, she kicked and screamed, but this time she kicked the officer in the groin, so he used a taser in the childs back to bring her under control. She has been arrested and is in custody at Western Arkansas Youth Shelter in Cecil, where she awaits charges of "disorderly conduct."

In what world can anybody see it sufficient to arrest, let alone taser a child because she doesn't want to take a shower ? The officer will not be prosecuted, because the police only investogate crimes rather than "matters of policy." Using electric shocks to bring unruly children under control is assault on a minor no matter who does it or what badge they are wearing. To make matters worse, her mother told the officer he "could tase her if he needed to." but do parents make the law ? No of course they don't, in some cases the law is there to protect the children from their parents and the state, and it seems both have surely failed this poor child.

Police chief Jim Noggle said ""We didn't use the Taser to punish the child - just to bring the child under control so she wouldn't hurt herself or somebody else." Tasers are known as "less lethal weapons," like rubber bullets or perpper spray. They used to be known as "non leathal weapons" but all have been known to kill people while being used. If these weapons can kill fully grown adults, what are they going to to do to children ?

The officer in question (in my mind) should held for charged with child abuse and any other law that prohibits assault of a child. Never did I think the police would resort to such extremes with children, a ten year old child does not need to be shocked by electricity for not wanting to take a shower, it seems insane to even think such a thought.
