Grace,
New friend, I found this group from visiting your profile page. I do want to write a bit more about my own health issues and battles for medical care but I have to complete a SSD Medical Update form that took 3 weeks to reach me(I just moved) and is due within 30 days of date they have on it!!!!
I have to list ALL medical care back to Feb. 2008 ..Argh! Is a nightmare, not enough time to gather the info. I live in Indiana one of the WORST states for benefits, medical coverage and financial assistance. I would be homeless were it not for a loving Soul took me in 4yrs ago and as her property was foreclosed on and we were tossed out (deadline to get out 3-4) She is paying for an apartment for me since Feb. 5th when I moved.
I will pay what I can,but the the rent is more than my monthly income, sigh.
So very stressful..but I go on. Best I can, effecting positive change
wherever I can, however I can..regardless of my personal struggles to survive.

I want to Thank You Edward for starting this group!
I have written a few blogs, discussions on ipeace and other networks on this issue. Some of my personal disabling health issues. That I did not discuss for a long time on this network or others for a lot of reasons.
I am on Disability benefits since 2006, unable to continue my part time work for local non profit since Feb. 2007,this truly broke my heart as activist/advocacy work is as important to me as breathing! I have been & continue to be a cyber activist/advocate and grassroots organizer, as much as my health allows me to.
I am a 20yr. veteran activist/advocate & community organizer,so not being "able" to work outside my home and often out of my bed is very very difficult for me. Having a forum to discuss these issues is important, I think
Mostly I have written on gunilla's group(s) "We Can Not Always Shine" about disabling health issues.

Link to my discussion I orginally wrote on my profile page about a year ago,i think?
http://www.ipeace.me/forum/topics/ipeace-members-with-disabiling

and also posted on WCAS group.

Unfortunately gunilla deleted all other (11) of her ipeace groups & moved them to her ning network "The Child Within", where I write a lot of blogs and discussions also..

The Child Within link http://gunillacaisson.ning.com/

I will return here soon to read more and get aquanted with this group & it's few members.
Many Blessings

Edward, I have MS and have some problems walking long distances. Long distance these days are up the street and back so I am reliant on my scooter which my health plan won't cover. I am in Portland Oregon, not the most accessible place due to many older buildings. I miss many events due to my disability. I have Tri-met lift service but the driving can really yank my back which is the most vulnerable. I miss driving but can't drive here in a bigger city safely. I am considering moving back to Alaska where at least I can get better benefits. Oregon is very broke and living can be difficult. But that is the case many places so I am grateful for what I get in benefits, etc. We do need better health coverage for low income elder handicap people. Oregon Health Care (ha) just cut my dental and eye care benefits. As an elder I need these more than ever. So there we go---the need for change and sanity. Look forward to hearing from you. My web page is negotiatingshadows.com
