Horse Ranch

I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch in San Ysidro. He has let me use his house to put on fund-raising events to raise money for youth at risk programs.

The last time I was there he introduced me by saying, “I want to tell you why I let Jack use my house. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As a result, the boy’s high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

“That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.

“He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F with a note that read, ‘See me after class.’

“The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, ‘Why did I receive an F?’

“The teacher said, ‘This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you’ll have to pay large stud fees. There’s no way you could ever do it.‘ Then the teacher added, ‘If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.’

“The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, ‘Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.’

“Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all. He stated, `You can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.’”

Monty then turned to the assembled group and said, “I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of my 200-acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed over the fireplace.” He added, “The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week.” When the teacher was leaving, he said, ‘Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. Fortunately you had enough gumption not to give up on yours.‘
There is a simple yet powerful way for you to uncover your intuitive knowingness and follow your heart… Letting go! It is very simple. When you believe you are either being mislead by the mind or are not sure that gut sense you are experiencing is actually intuition, simply let go using The Sedona Method.

If you let go and it is simply mental confusion or emotional reaction it will simply lessen as you let go and may even fully disappear. If it is a message from your heart – your own knowingness – it will simply get quieter and clearer as you let go.

Now you know why Lester Levenson, the inspiration behind The Sedona Method, said “Intuition is only right 100% of the time.” He knew as you now do that if you let go of your reactions and trust the true messages of the heart you can not go wrong.

Allow yourself to explore letting go instead of allowing your doubt or reactions to control you the next time you are attempting to know what to do. You will find yourself following your heart and naturally moving in the direction of attracting all that is for your highest good. Why It’s Important to Follow Your Heart?

There is a universal intelligence or knowingness in each and every one of us. When you are open to this intelligence of the heart, it guides you in the right direction to do what is best for you and those around you.

Following this intuitive knowing attracts to you whatever you need as you need it. You find yourself having, being and doing whatever is right for you in the moment for your highest good.

Your heart knows what actions are appropriate for you to take to attract to you what is appropriate for you. Your heart also knows when to give or act without wanting anything in return.

Following your heart also feels great. There is an inner sense of peace and completion as well as love and compassion as you allow yourself to follow your heart. This feels so good it is often its own reward Letting Go of the Oldtag:ipeace.us,2009-08-26:2217368:Topic:19818442009-08-26T09:34:18.452Zbridget ormanhttps://ipeace.us/profile/bridgetorman
Letting Go of the Old

Because of the momentum of your habitual ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, you may often feel like you are trying to move forward with a rubber band around your waist. So the closer you get to attracting what you want into your life, the pull of your old thinking is so strong, you seem to snap back into your old patterns.

These patterns are stealing your energy. Every negative pattern you are holding onto from the past is robbing you of the energy that you could be using to create all that you choose. When you let go of these negative patterns, you can then channel this energy into your worthy goals and intentions.

If you truly have over 50,000 thoughts a day, that’s a lot of thoughts to try to control and make positive. Yet if you “wake up on the wrong side of the bed,” you can have the same feeling the whole day coloring every thought. So it is much more effective to master your emotions than simply trying to control your thoughts.

You are creating the sum total of your thinking and feeling about any particular topic all the time, but most of thinking and feeling is below your conscious awareness in your subconscious. In fact, 94-96% of your actions are motivated by the thoughts and feelings that are outside of your conscious awareness and control. When you let go of your conscious feelings using The Sedona Method, you empty your subconscious and you take back your control. Keeping an Open Heart

I believe I make a daily choice to keep my heart open – open to my life, open to the moment, open to experiencing everything challenging. The very fact I can call my personal hells “challenging” is because the counter-intuitive belief of keeping an open heart also keeps me from the daily fear that nothing is going to work out, that no one really knows what the hell they’re doing. Oh sure, we go to the market and drive cars and pay phone bills and all that, but I believe…

Oh sure, we go to the market and drive cars and pay phone bills and all that, but I believe the question gnaws: why are we here.

There’s a difference between doom and gloom and realism, and I no longer believe in the sugar coating or the forced smile. I believe if I listen to my blues all day long, I will probably live the blues all day long. But there are things that keep me going – things that keep me alive – that are based on the open heart.

And, yes, there are people who get me so damned irritated, that all I can do is pray for their enlightenment so they can know what pains in the asses they really are.

I believe everyone gets to pay the bill. It might not be the way I want it paid or even get to see others pay it, but we all get to pay it somehow.

I believe if people are given everything they want when they don’t deserve it, it will ultimately drive them crazy. So when a car speeds across my lane and cuts me off, I pray they get where they’re going an hour early. That’ll give them time to ponder.

My life has traveled from arrogance to self-loathing to joy. Maybe not the kind of joy I’d get from finding a hundred dollar bill on the sidewalk, but real joy. The kind that comes from helping someone find answers for themselves, or being that secret angel that overhears a sneeze and says “bless you” even if they don’t hear it, or scoops up a dog running in traffic.

I did not set out in life to be a good Samaritan or a saint. I set out to watch as much TV and to eat as much candy as humanly possible, but that was never the answer.

I believe I can fill myself with as much of you-name-it as there is, and there will just not be enough. So I believe I must say enough. I must rise above my own greed, my own fears, my own questioning to just believe that today is the day I have. I now finally believe I want the entire journey to be the lesson…not just the last moment.

I’ve outlived friends, family and pets. I’ve experienced loss that makes me believe that it doesn’t matter if there’s heaven or hell, but that I’m part of something I may never be able to grasp. And I believe I honor those I’ve lost by how I choose to live. Now, the VOA Special English program WORDS AND THEIR STORIES.

Each week, this program explains the many meanings of English expressions. Today’s expressions include a very important word – heart.

We will try to get to the heart of the matter to better understand the most important things about words and their stories. So take heart. Have no fear about learning new expressions. Besides, popular English words can be fun. There is no need for a heavy heart. Such feelings of sadness would only break my heart, or make me feel unhappy and hopeless.

Now, let us suppose you and I were speaking freely about something private. We would be having a heart to heart discussion. I might speak from the bottom of my heart, or say things honestly and truthfully. I might even open up my heart to you and tell a secret. I would speak with all my heart, or with great feeling.

When a person shares her feelings freely and openly like this, you might say she wears her heart on her sleeve, or on her clothing. Her emotions are not protected.

If we had an honest discussion, both of us would know that the other person’s heart is in the right place. For example, I would know that you are a kind-hearted and well-meaning person. And, if you are a very good person, I would even say that you have a heart of gold. However, you might have a change of heart based on what I tell you. Our discussion might cause you to change the way you feel about something.

But, let us suppose you get angry over what I tell you. Or worse, you feel no sympathy or understanding for me or my situation. If this happens, I might think that you have a heart of stone. And, if you say something to make me frightened or worried, my heart might stand still or skip a beat.

Yet, even though you may be angry, I would know that at heart, you are a kind person. In reality, you do care. And any argument between us would not cause me to lose heart or feel a sense of loss.

My heart goes out to anyone who loses a friend over an argument. It really is a sad situation, and I feel sympathy for the people involved.

I promise that what I have told you today is true – cross my heart.

I really wanted to play some music at the end of this feature. In fact, I had my heart set on it. So here it is, “Don’t Go Breaking my Heart” by Elton John.
