Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2nd 1869 in Porbandar in Gujarat.

Known as 'Mahatma' (great soul), Gandhi was the leader of the Indian nationalist movement against British rule, and is widely considered the father of his country. His doctrine of nonviolent protest to achieve political and social progress has been hugely influential.

On January 30th 1948, he was assassinated in Delhi by a Hindu fanatic.

dear friends, I recommend you all to read 'an Autobiography or The Story of My Experiments With Truth', written by Gandhi - it's one of the most amazing stories I've ever read! a lot to learn out of it.........

Thanks all for the help!
I will look for the links I missed also at the end of those quotes.
I have little time here, my power levels are low due to little wind or sun,
so I have only time to read quickly the many wonderful responses left but not enough power to follow the links at this time.
I cant tell the wind to blow, or if I was wise enough to know how?
I would trust the wisdom of the wind to know its time greater than I to tell it what to do, so I must wait, come and go to the site quickly, then power down the machine until the forces of nature feel it is right for me to have more time online.
Bless all for helping me use what time I have wisely so I can follow your trails you've left me to the light that Gandhi still shines.
May the healers themselves be healed,
and peaceful power flow to the peacekeepers.

Your friendly neighborhood Tree.

Hi, Tree Thunderchild. If you go to the discussion above on Gandhi quote you will see that under replies (need to scroll down quite a way as I put in a lot of quotes) there is an entry with the information you might find helpful.

Hi Gordon, I didn't join sooner I came to see if I could find some information.
I dont really know that much about Gandhi, other than seeing some of his quotations around here and there (why I didn't join sooner).
I found this one on the discussions:
What do I think of Western civilization? I think it would be a very good idea.

And figured "I like this guy!" :D
Not much time to read, but can anyone post a link here to a place you think would be a good one to go for more info on Gandhi?
I dont know hardly anything about him but would like to!
Especially after reading that :D

Hello fellow Gandhi Lovers! Have just begun to read Tolstoy's 'The Kingdom of God is Within You' a book that made a real impression on Gandhi ~ its pretty phenomenal, goes deep. I'm usually a fairly fast reader but need to take this one slowly as there is SO much to absorb ~ I highly recommend it.

Gandhi & the sugar

"A young woman brought a child to Gandhi. “Gandhi, tell my son to stop eating sugar”. Gandhi pondered this for a moment and replied. “Bring your son back in two weeks”.

Two weeks had passed and she returned with her son again, “Gandhi please tell my son to stop eating sugar”. Gandhi looked directly at the boy and said “Stop eating sugar”.

She looked at him and asked, "Couldn’t you just have done that two weeks ago and save me a trip across the desert?"

Gandhi replied, “Two weeks ago I was still eating sugar”.
