Entering into the Caitanya Era

Five hundred years ago in what is now West Bengal, India the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna. appeared within this material world in the form of His own devotee. At that time He inaugurated a ten thousand year era of God Consciousness that is predicted to inundate the entire material world. This is indeed significant, considering the fact that we are now in the midst of the extremely materialistic Age of Kali, the dark winter age of quarrel and hypocrisy. That He would choose this darkest age in which to introduce a special ten thousand year era of spiritual enlightenment is His extraordinary mercy. And that we happen to living now as human beings at this particular time and place in the history of the universe is our greatest good fortune because we are in prime position to capitalize on this special mercy of Lord Caitanya and thus quickly and easily make our lives perfect.

By doing research in the Srimad Bhagavatam regarding this Age of Kali we find that the special opportunity it affords us was not unknown to the sages before this age began. It is clearly stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam that in the Age of Kali spiritual emancipation become easier by the process of chanting the holy names of the Lord:

kalim sabhajayanty arya
guna jnah sara-bhaginah
yatra sankirtanenaiva
sarva-svartho 'bhilabhyate

"Those who are advanced and highly qualified and are interested in the essence of life know the good qualities of Kali-yuga. Such people worship the Age of Kali because in this age one can advance in spiritual knowledge and attain life's goal simply by chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra." SB 11.5.36

So the good news is that you are already here in the Caitanya Era. Now all you have to do is wake up and realize where you are. Do not remain asleep in the lap of the witch known as Maya. If you will chant these Holy Names without any offense, you will quickly achieve the supreme perfection of existence:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

In this connection our most beloved Founder-Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has explained in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 8.5.23:

"When Krishna appeared, He gave His orders, and when Krishna Himself appeared as a devotee, as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He showed us the path by which to cross the ocean of Kali-yuga. That is the path of the Hare Krishna movement. When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared, He ushered in the era for the Sankirtan movement. It is also said that for ten thousand years this era will continue. This means that simply by accepting the Sankirtan movement and chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra, the fallen souls of this Kali-yuga will be delivered. After the Battle of Kuruksetra, at which Bhagavad-gita was spoken, Kali-yuga continues for 432,000 years, of which only 5,000 years have passed. Thus there is still a balance of 427,000 years to come. Of these 427,000 years, the 10,000 years of the Sankirtan movement inaugurated by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu 500 years ago provide the opportunity for the fallen souls of Kali-yuga to take to the Krishna consciousness movement, chant the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and thus be delivered from the clutches of material existence and return home, back to Godhead."

Don't hesitate a moment longer. Dive right now into the sweet ocean of Lord Caitanya's mercy and realize the perfection of your existence.

Things go wrong in this world all the time. This is why this place is known as the material world. If things went right here all the time, this would be the spiritual world, not the material world. We can, however, by an adjustment of our consciousness always live in the spiritual world even though we are still physically situated in the material world. That adjustment is that we have to see everything, and I am mean absolutely everything, as the special mercy of Krishna or God upon us to help us purify our consciousness so we can return to Him as soon as possible. If we see everything in this light, we will always feel blissful even though facing sometimes the most difficult, devastating calamities. This is what the science of Krishna consciousness is all about. It teaches us how to always blissfully deal with adversity.

In this world of envious, agitated people we repeatedly experience abuse from those who are trying to lord it over us. What should we do when this happens? The most important thing is to always protect our Krishna consciousness. If a dog barks at me, will I bark back? No, I will not because I understand that he is simply a dog and is therefore lacking any understanding of what is proper behavior and what is improper behavior. Envious, angry people are often looking for a fight and will try to provoke our anger so we will descend to their platform and fight with them. When this happens we should be compassionate upon them by keeping our cool and repaying their envy and anger with Krishna conscious love. Lord Caitanya says that if we remain always more tolerant than a tree, we can chant the holy names of the Lord constantly. Just consider how a tolerant a tree is. It endures so many severe weather conditions but goes on continually rendering the service of providing shade, fruits, and flowers no matter what difficulties it must face. Similarly one who is advanced in Krishna consciousness shows the same symptoms of always acting for the welfare of others without being disturbed by their immaturity.

We cannot sit idly by and allow the human population to be so grossly misguided. We have to speak up and speak out against the Godless gross ignorance and extreme selfishness that are becoming more and more predominant in the human society. We should no longer allow the misguided fools and rascals to pressure us to joining them in a life of sense gratifcation. Of course, since misery enjoys company, they are always going to pressure us to join them in shackles of illusion. But fools rush in where angels fear to tread. We are not doing them or ourselves any favors by remaining shackled along with them. The best thing we can do for the suffering humanity is to first ourselves become liberated from serving our senses by complete absorption in serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead and then to fully dedicate our lives for delivering them from the shackles of illusion
