Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, known as Sarhadi Gandhi (Frontier Gandhi) - May his soul rest in eternal peace - is a torch bearer of peace and non-violence. He started the Khudai Khidmatgar Tehrik (God’s Servants) in 1926-27 as an Islamic parallel to MK Gandhi's non-violence ideals of compassion for enemies and peaceful resistance to oppression as a means to overcome it.
Best known to his followers throughout the world as Bacha Khan, Abdul Ghaffar Khan’s soul must be restless at the spate of violence wrecking the Frontier hinterland. He carried forward with full vigour the mission of non-violence and promoting compassion to establish peace in these parts of the world.
Today, the entire Pashtun nation is fighting enormous odds to organize tribal aspirations away from the militants, trampling every sign and mark of peace in the north western parts of Pakistan. We need to get re-united on the lines of the Sarhadi Gandhi’s ideals to eschew violence to defeat the enemy and pave the way for lasting peace in the blood-stained and blood-drenched Frontier province of Pakistan.
