Religion is not the problem, but a solution

Our goal as a group is to foster knowledge, understanding, and cooperation. If you also believe that religion is part of the solution, join us.

I believe that all religions originated from a single divine source, but that their messages have been manipulated and corrupted by self-serving leaders over time. That is why religions can now be used to manipulate people into hatred and fear of others. Some of us are opening our eyes and our minds to this and are reaching out to others of different faiths. The more we grow to recognize our commonalities, the more peace will grow within us. Then we can slowly begin to spread peace and understanding to members of our community, and from there to build bridges from our community to others. Who knows what changes this will lead to? It seems a good place to start. A pebble dropped will soon affect the whole pond. This is my pebble.

I came across this beautiful quote today that I wanted to share with everyone.

"We often think of peace as the absence of war; that if the powerful countries would reduce their arsenals, we could have peace. But if we look deeply into the weapons, we see our own minds - our prejudices, fears, and ignorance. Even if we transported all the bombs to the moon, the roots of war and the reasons for bombs would still be here, in our hearts and minds, and sooner or later we would make new bombs. Seek to become more aware of what causes anger and separation, and what overcomes them. Root out the violence in your life, and learn to live compassionately and mindfully."

This amazing quote is from Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, who is also a teacher, author, poet and peace activist. Martin Luther King Jr. nominated him for the Nobel Peace Price and he is still active at age 82. One of his projects has been sponsoring retreats for Israelis and Palestinians, encouraging them to listen and learn about each other.

every faith have good sources and resources,if we would spend our time in searching for unity, instead of searching for diferencies,we would get the peace!we dont have to be all black or white, all cristian or moslem, but respect eachother as they are(and that is dificult part).we can practice hier!

What you say is true Sister Modgala, we women are denied our voices in many places in the world and most religions have reverted to patriarchal institutions.

This is the case with Islam also. Women are denied education and basic God-given rights in too many countries, though our Prophet fought for these rights 1400 years ago. Once a woman is unaware of her rights, anything can be done to her. She no longer is a force for peace and tolerance. It is the responsibility of those of us who know to share our knowledge. You have my hand and my heart.

thank you for starting this groupIt is lovely to feel yu building a bridge t our small buddhist group. some years ago i was speaking at a "women and Interfaith " conference and when we all shared the stories about what had happened in our faiths to womens voices we found we had common stories of being denied our voices. Many things have happened in our faiths over the centuries that have distorted their common messages of peace and tolerance too. Let us join hands and share our messages of peace
with love
