Thank you so much for your comment David & you are right, it isn't only women who are abused. Children and men too, domestic abuse can happen to anyone, straight, gay, bisexual, male or female and I understand everything you said about those making the break, returning, staying, I agree too. My day job is to educate people at all levels, about domestic abuse, in all its guises, why people stay or return, what the barriers to leaving are. Primarily I educate people about the affects of domestic abuse on women and children, however, I do accept that men too are abused. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that someone found whatever they needed to leave and to rebuild their lives. I will have a look for sites that provide services for men, I know on one only in Wales, if anyone knows of more, let me know. Peace, love & harmony xxx

Peace always has to start inside of the idividual and spread outwards. This is so difficult when living with an abusive partner as one's heart is pulled both ways. I worked professionally with the victims of abuse and so many times we saw them return back to their partners...because they loved them...they promised to change...they wanted to change them...and so on through all the reasons. It was so hard to have to watch from the sidelines as all one's work of finding safe-houses, escape routes and so forth all went up in a puff of smoke. However we did see some make the break and survive and become either sucessful single units or even parts of new partnerships. I am still in awe of the courage it took those people (not all of them women by the way...men get abused as well) to leave and make a clean break. Although retired by some years one of them I still see around from time to time...she winks and smiles amd I know that she is still doing fine and she knows that I take the secret of who she is to my grave

Thank you for your support, means a lot. This is a matter that is very close to my heart, so much so that I work in the field. I am developing Open College Network credit based qualifications and a colleague and I have just submitted 3 learning units (levels 1, 2 & 3) on forced marriage. We are waiting for the OCN in Wales to get back to us now. They have been very supportive. It is an honour to do a job that you love, on a subject that you so believe in, hugs & love xxx

Hi Collette, nice one! been ther done that, as they say, the problem is removing the stigma from the partner that is being abused, one feels it is one's fault and can't tell anyone it is such a failure. And where do you go? How do you move on? so many questions! It took me 26 years to leave, it wasn't all bad some was very good, but that didn't compensate for the bad. It leaves such deep psychological scars.....
Maybe we can help?

Thank you Colette for raising awareness of the damage that violence does at every level of society. I look forward to hearing more about your work on developing educational tools about forced marriage, FGM and what domestic abuse and violence are.

peace & metta,
Gordon
