What if

If only I knew,
what best I could do
to stop the hate on this Earth,
If I knew a trick
to make war report sick,
I'd be brimming over with mirth!

If night turned to day
to shine hatred away
and bring light in everyone's heart,
or if sun turned to rain,
I wouldn't complain
if it washed away tears for a start!

If only I could
stop your pain - well I would
do so without hesitation.
And if with this might
I could make joy from fright,
I'd do so for every nation!

If I were a Jew
and you a Hindu
would it block your will for peace?
Would you call me a thug
or join me and shrug
at mine choosing lamb and not geese?

If hate were proscribed,
politicians not bribed,
and wars a thing of the past,
then peace would prevail,
and love never fail,
and we would live happy - at last!
