I wrote this poem a year after my step daughter was killed in the London Bombings of 2005.

No Room for Hate.

There is no room within my heart
for revenge, fire or hate
there is no room within my mind
for any thoughts like these.

I cannot find the words to say
just how it is I feel
but I know from deepest hurt
I must forgiveness find.

The hurt that’s been done to us
cuts sore like a knife,
but we must not, repay in kind
what has been done to us.

Instead we must try and find
the way that is so hard,
and reach out our loving hands
to find some friendship now.

There can be no more healing thing
than opening wide our eyes
and seeing that most other folk
are really just like us.

April in Poland 2010

Today our hearts are heavy
to grieve their brief passing.
Today our candles light the sky
darkened by the tears of millions.
The world pauses to remember
those we have lost, to see no more.
Today we bow our heads in prayer
and say our farewells to them all.

Abraham’s mad ravings
shape a world of war,
brother battles brother
while women keep score.
Genetic mutations
of power and greed,
line pockets of prophets,
who’s will be decreed.
The earth’s precious children
lay waste in thy name...
Business as usual
proceeds just the same.

Global tempreture has increased even though you might see more snow in some areas..it's now more of the "climate change" because of the global warming.. I'm sure you should be hearing about increased flooding in some areas too in the news!

Raven Cohan revises today's earlier published version near it's end:
What-Global-WARMING...? WARNING...! byRaven Cohan

Winter came to Florida this year.
And caused people to jeer...

"What is this B.S. about global warming?
The proof is this icy storming !
Everywhere you look
There's snow in every corner
And in every nook!
Therefore, Global Warming
Does not exist.
It's Just a Myth and I am Pissed!"

Or so they say, with their heads in the sand...
They see no big picture
No melted icebergs in THEIR land!
Where they live there's clean air...
They breath it in and fire up the coal...
You know it's their goal
To get the old bucks
Shoved up their corporate hole.
Let the rest of the population
Simply live on the dole!
What care they
Since they own no soul?

Spare those who don't make their living
Digging Deep in the Earth
And burning what they find there
That's made our atmosphere , for all it's worth
A living Hell to every other mineral,
vegetable and animal...
That's ever shown it's face via birth...
For Brains, corporate heads have mush...
And for intelligence, a dearth...

Those who call themselves, "Green"
Need to be better heard and seen
(Than these others, who have in
common their middle names...
Each one's named, "Mean"...)

Yet let me end on a positive note...
Because in previous poems,
(and I quote,)
I've said, "We must be positive and
put out language that backs it up..."
With woe and despair
We best not fill our cup!
So look to the clear skies...
Spring in Florida is slowly emerging...
Perhaps it will waken the frozen brains
That have been purging
And let's get surging
Forward to the education
Of each generation
To stand at the station
And catch the train that says
"To Ration"
To recycle, make of old---
Clean Fuels!
Wind, Water, Sun for all.
And sooner or later...
There will be no room
For the old fools...

A rough translation of DK's poem

MY ASCHENBACH

You are the epitome of my dreams.
I have you ever up there in the brain.
You dance through my mind all rooms.
It robs me of all sense and meaning.

You are the epitome of beauty.
Elegance and aesthetics of the Act I predict.
I could see you - every day continuously.
As only - you come out of my mind the house?

But then I realized it yesterday with delight.
You are real, small and beautiful than a dream.
You brought me sunshine of your smile.
In my face, I hardly believed it.

Oh any single day
I’d rather the UK
than your system
based on wealth
not need of health
nor ability to pay
so get that bill thro
whatever else you do
for it does not matter
what tongue you chatter
or size of balance
or circumstance
get that bill thro
whatever you do.

A Prayer for the U.S.A.

Help! with thought and prayer...
Help! with peaceful wishes...
The U.S. of A.
Needs cheers and no fears...
To move the Health Care Bill
Through vicious
and outright contrariness.
So much wariness
Can be like...
Being sunk in mud up to
Your hips...
But we need to pass through
The lips...
Positive words
Like birds...
They will chirp to our ears...
And we will co-operate...
So more doctors can Operate
On patients
Who might not have insurance.
And they'll no longer have to wait
'Till it's way too late.
Their endurance
will not be the issue...
But writing a bill
That will kiss you
Instead of slap you
Would be a great feat...
So don't let the corporations
Stop a bill being passed
That will top
All efforts to
Help those without...
Those industries
That want all our monies...
And don't know how to give,
Need to be told...
It's not all about dispensing
Dangerous Drugs... $$$$
And raking in high-rate insurance... $$$$
Encourage people
To be Healthy by eating right,
Exercising, and seeing the light
Of our cells inside our bodies.
But for those who won't or can't
The rest of us can Chant
"PASS the doggone Bill...
Already!!!"
Get off the 'ME FIRST-
YOU LAST' Committee...
Or it will really be a pity...

Last year my 20 year old son was taken to the World War One Battlefields as part of his military training...he was deeply moved and told me about it later. I have tried to summon up some of his feeling here.

Our Sons at the Battlefields

How these fields peacefully lie
where so many came to die
and the markers, row on row
row on row of human sorrow
for them there was no tomorrow
and many yet lie where they fell
trapped forever in conflict’s hell.

I wish someone held my hand
and helped me try to understand
why so many young men died
and how their lives were swept aside
sweeping all this land as a tide
as they fell on unseeing ground
layer on layer, an obscene mould.

Now my friend we stand and weep
recalling the death they didn’t seek
these young men were like our sons
full of hope and manly passions
but with a haughty sweep of pen
the orders sent them to that end
that none could ever comprehend
looking at peaceful field and fen.

A SURVIVOR’S LAMENT

By

Mike O’Hare

Claim me not yon winter’s tide
Your wrath cuts sway yet does not hide
The palm bends nigh as I embrace its girth
Its roots hold fast beneath the earth

I cling for life at rooftop height
The stars begin to show the night
Daytime comes, the sky still blue
My brothers flow to pastures new

The task ahead is to reason not
I descend the palm, its leaves aflot
No time to grieve, nor tears to spill
For those who live do feel the chill

The time has come to reflect
And ask why death did thus reject
I had the chance to leave this plane
And find my brothers once again

Instead I start a life anew
With heavy heart and friends afew
A second chance to see the light
And bid yon winter’s tide goodnight

Finding a War and Oppression in My Own Family?
By Raven Cohan

Mom, trying to leave the planet at 92 is STUCK here.

Don't you think a former professor who can't remember
enough words, or even what she said a minute ago
Could be given the right to "Stop the World... I Want to Get Off!" ???

They threw Dr. Kavorkian in jail at 76 or so for trying to
Help people off the planet who, like Mom are stuck.

Well, Mom is now excepted into Hospice.
We in our family hope she gets her wish...
When this occurs she will be free...
And life will go on for you and me...

I won't be taking on her pain...
I will be happy she can start anew...
In another young, fresh baby...
She will find her way...
And she'll start a new design
More beautiful
On that day...
Happy Birthday to a new spirit.
That baby will be old when it's born.
Full of memories my Mom now
Wishes she could remember.
Full of dreams,
That barely recall her last years
Tortured in a cave of her own old flesh.
