Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr visited the Gandhi family in India in 1959, and he went on to dedicate himself to the principles of non-violence

On August 28, 1963, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, he delivered one of the greatest speeches of the 20th century to over two hundred and fifty thousand civil rights supporters;

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Comment by Teresa Moraska on December 29, 2011 at 3:45pm: Martine Luther King, we sometimes forget, was not yet 40 years old when he was killed. He has accomplished so much on which we stand, as a platform and example for how to obtain peace, which begins with each person. He was one man, but one man with a vision, a mission and strong courage.

Thank you for sharing these memories of courage with us.

Each year, on Martin Luther King's birthday, I read his "I had a Dream" speech from that August 28. 1963 speech.......Each time I read it, and sometimes I read it to children as well, I get goose bums. Do you know that his speech spanded only 15 minutes of time? This is yet another lession for us, in that less words can accomplish more and that violence IS NOT the answer.

May the world see peace one day. Let us all here at the iPeace community keep our eye on the ball, our voices strong and come together to make this peace a reality. Peace should not be but a dream!
