I am glad you had a good meal, we had a nice dinner tonight... moroccan spaghetti.

That must have been a surprise to see late last night... it is sad, all their hard work ruined and so many precious possessions gone :( at least everyone is ok though, and I am sure they will make their home lovely all over again :)

It was good thanks Sophie!

I didn't give you the high drama from the village!
Last night, about 12, I was about to go to bed when I remembered I hadn't put the car away. I decided I would leave it out but go and check that it was locked properly, also the garage with the bike in. When I went out of the back door I realised that there was a lot of light coming from just down the street - normally it's totally black, no street lamps in the village. Another look showed great plumes of smoke spiralling up into the sky. I went to investigate and found one of the big thatched roof cottages on fire. There were fire engines everywhere and I could see the hoses sending great jets of water over the roof. At about 1am it was still burning strongly and we decided that we had to get to bed. There was clearly nothing we could do and in any case the firemen had closed off the village street so we couldn't get anywhere near. This morning they were still there and there was still smoke coming from inside the house. We learned that no-one had been hurt, which of course was a relief. We had to go out and as the road was still closed had to go out of the other end of the village and along the coast road. We were out all morning and had lunch out at a nice little tea-room on the egg farm nearby. I decided to try going in at the nearest end of the village when we returned but when we got there it was still closed. Apparently they had hoped to have it all done and open again by mid-day but the fire had broken out again and prevented them.

It is a big house that used to be two and has been made one. The couple who live there have worked so hard for years to make it lovely and now it's a burned out wreck. That must be so devastating for them. I reckon it will take the best part of a year to put right, it's so badly damaged.

Thanks for all those birthday wishes Sophie - lovely!
I celebrated by having lunch out at a delightful tea room just a few minutes along the coast from here. It's on a farm where we buy our free-range eggs so we know it's all good fresh food.
