Conference on Human Unity

On 20 April starts in Geneva a United Nations conference to review progress on the Programme of Action of the 2001 World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The original conference was held 31 August to 8 September 2001 in Durban, South Africa, and so the review conference has, as a short title “Durban II”.

Durban I had just folded its tents when the 11 September attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington highlighted the hates and many divisions in the world. The years since 2001 have been filled with examples of xenophobia – fear of the foreign – and related fears of all that is different, all that challenges the way the dominant forces in a country structure a society and its values.

Fortunately, there have been individuals and organized groups which have worked to break down walls and to overcome divisions among peoples. The Durban Programme of Action had recognized such efforts and called “upon States to explore means to expand the role of non-governmental organizations in society through, in particular, deepening the ties of solidarity amongst citizens and promoting greater trust across racial and social class divides by promoting wider citizen involvement and more voluntary cooperation.”

With the current world-wide economic difficulties, there is a real danger that xenophobic sentiments will be directed against foreign workers. There is a large, world-wide migration of people, on the move to increase their economic prospects, to escape conflict and violence, to break out of the chains of racial, gender, and ethnic discrimination.

We need to develop compassionate and welcoming societies so that all may find a place in which to develop their full potential. The Durban Programme of Action calls “to work to reduce violence, including violence motivated by racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance by addressing bias before it manifests itself in violent criminal activity.”

Thus Durban II is a time for all of us to stress human unity and to recall that we are all citizens of the world.

do all the banners have movement in them? does that make a difference in the space they take in "links"?
I am trying to add the iPeace banner following the instruction my website designer left me for adding links to my resource page and it asks for a link URL. Is that the same as the code ? Now that candle4tibet has moved to ipeace, should I remove the candle4tibet banner?
Thanks:) Peace & Light

INVITATION TO A GLOBAL MEDITATION FOR THE FIFTH DIMENSION

I invite you all my dear friends, to participate Monday 26.Jan.09 (new moon), to a synchronized new meditation (at 8.00 pm for Sydney and Paris and 9.00 pm for New York) via the Crystalline Grid, for health and peace in the planet and in order to prepare ourselves and all the people of the Earth, as well as the entire planet with all its realms, to enter at the most secure, fast, easy, comfortable and painless way in the fifth dimension. This meditation that lasts for about 15 minuets (or as long as you like), uses the symbols of love, joy, and healing, as well as the mandalas that attract the high frequencies, the extraterrestrial’s help, and the divine support, and at the end invites us to experience and enjoy a frantic feast taking place in the fifth dimensional Earth. Details for this meditation (that came to me from above as a very powerful instrument), you can find in my page (for the pictures see my photos by clicking on "view all" and taking the first nine), and in my group "The new Earth in the fifth dimension" as well as in my site www.artmine5000.com (where you can also hear the meditation). In whatever group you belong I invite you to do this meditation that I am sure that you will like it, (the persons that tried it came back with very enthusiastic comments, and certain told me that they do it almost daily), together with any other meditation you used to do, and I would be very glad to have your feedback from your new experiences. Also I invite you to join my new group "The new Earth in the fifth dimension" which is going to be very active with new and precious information. Love and Joy. George.

TO WEBSITE "OWNERS"

Dear Colleague,

Each website is different with different aims and styles. www.transnational-perspectives.org is a web journal of world politics. For 15 years, it was a print publication and has largely kept that style..

I have been active in cooperation among editors of print publications. I had drafted an appeal to the Soviet authorities when Andrei Sakharov was exiled to Gorki. It was signed by a good number of editors of scholarly journals and widely circulated after having been given to the Soviet Ambassador to the UN. In 1991 when things were changing in the USSR, I met Mrs Sakharov who told me that the petition had been much appreciated.

Events in Gaza are moving too quickly for a petition to have an impact, and this Appeal has already been sent to the authorities of Israel and Hamas. However, I would be pleased if you could share the Appeal with others as respect for humanitarian law in times of armed conflict is crucial.

As soon as the military operations of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) « Operation Cast Lead » began in Gaza, the Office to the United Nations, Geneva, of the Association of World Citizens appealed to H.E. Ms Gabriela Shalev, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN in New York, and to Mr. Khaled Mesha’al, Head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) urging all parties to act in compliance with international standards of humanitarian law applicable in times of armed conflict, in particular when it comes to the protection of civilians. We also urged that access of humanitarian workers to the wounded be facilitated.

The Office to the United Nations, Geneva, of the Association has joined with others in calling for a rapid cease-fire and for serious negotiations to end hostilities and provide security for all.

Your help in stressing these ideas with government officials in your country and with NGOs is most welcome.

Rene Wadlow, Representative to the UN, Geneva, Association of World Citizens
