The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to 95 individuals and 20 organizations since 1901. (Comité International de la Croix Rouge was awarded the prize in 1917, 1944 and 1963; Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was awarded the prize in 1954 and 1981.)

Thanks for the invitation, I too am in the same opinion as Bruce that we in iPeace in our own mild and unsophisticated way should get involved, to bring about a significant change in overseeing or monitoring of proper governance in the world. It is up to the Nobel peace prize committee to award a prize if we succeed and deserve. It is their prize to award and it is not for us to demand, covet, protest or ridicule when awarded, but it is our bounden duty to see that no innocent people anywhere in the world are marginalized or downtrodden and some assuage and relief is channeled through the proper sources to people in such situations.
I wish to attach a letter that I wrote to the Secretary General of the United Nations at the time when Georgia was over-run by Russia. I must admit that I am not a politician nor am I in the least knowledgeable in politics, but this was my immature and callow way of rushing like a fool into where angels fear to tread, as the pain is unbearable most often. This is what I had been doing for the past seven years or so all by myself, which was very frustrating. Now, all you beautiful people are there, for us to have a united effort in being there for the lost humanity. I take this opportunity to thank the creators of iPeace and all you beautiful people who are gathered here, because you too feel the pain and are concerned about these poor innocent people. Thank you. God Bless you.

Honourable Sir,

If we do not wish to witness another holocaust akin to or perhaps in excess of the magnitude of the ones carried out by Hitler and Stalin. The international community if they are to be recognized as a humane society, to be brief “As human beings.” It is now time to amend the constitution of the United Nations.
At present the decision making Security Council members appear to be only scratching and patting each others back, pulling the wool over the eyes of the rest of the world, when one member has the power to veto a resolution proposed by the rest. This is an excellent rule, which is an epitome of true democracy. Unfortunately that sort of rule applies only to gentlemen of the highest standards who could adhere to the laws of true democracy. Need I spell out the standard of some of the present day so called leaders?
The manner in which the word “democracy” is spoken or used ever so often, one would imagine this world to be a paradise where every individual enjoys to the fullest the four freedoms stipulated by the United Nations declaration of human rights.
I wonder whether the eyes and ears of the members of at least two hundred United Nation’s member states are open to the cries of the innocent and helpless people, when the so called gentlemen and leaders, who have appointed themselves to the esteemed Security Council, the highest on high Council responsible for proper governance on this planet earth, are the perpetrators of atrocities carried out on helpless and innocent communities.
It seems that the United Nations declaration is confined to flowery or “posh” words as the British would say, but so empty that the chaff crumbles in the hands of infants.
Yes, I quit agree, I am only a little John, without any high flown language or the knowledge of intricate politics, crying out in the dark wilderness, appealing to all the small Nations to take up this cry, and the bigger nations with gentlemen and gentlewomen as the leaders, to be involved in bringing about a change to the present system.
It is the responsibility of all the members in the United Nations general assembly, to see that the constitution is amended to have at least nine if not eleven members, as permanent members in the Security Council, and all resolutions should be approved by a majority vote. Hence every resolution would be approved by a minimum of five or six permanent members as the case may be, plus the balance votes depending on the total number being nine or eleven of the permanent members.
It is reported, already three countries i.e. India. Germany and Japan are strong contenders and in my opinion, most eligible members to be absorbed to the permanent membership of the Security Council. There has to be one other member, to make it up to nine. May I humbly propose Brazil as the ninth member, being the largest country in Latin America, Australia and Canada could be good propositions, but who am I to propose members to the Security Council of the United Nations?
Russia might be the first to veto a proposal of this nature, but it is paramount and of significant urgency that this is implemented, if not immediately, within the next couple of months.
Let me take this opportunity to humbly appeal to all the members of the NATO, to kindly accommodate any applicants to be members, even if we have to sacrifice the use of gas, until such time we find an alternative source of energy.
Lastly but yet of the utmost importance, may I please very humbly appeal to all my beautiful (inner beauty) friends, the citizens of the Republic of Ireland, to please reconsider your last decision to veto the Lisboan treaty, it would be so good for every one concerned, especially to small nations eagerly waiting to join the European Union. Unity is such a wonderful and powerful word. Together we can ward off even the devil, we must please remember there are devils lurking around and we are in the very depth of hell. In Unity, we share the good and bad of one another and we can be certain there is someone by your side in your hour of darkness. So my sweet friends never forget that Unity among human beings, the children of God the one father, is what was preached by all the religious leaders.
Unity brings out the fragrance that blossoms out into love, this true, detached and selfless love that springs out of friendship through Unity, transcend religion, hence let us inflame the fire that will help us to commune with God and radiate his vibrations of love to the world, including the Georgians, Russians and the terrorists but let us protect ourselves and our friends in the event that there is a blockage in our love reaching certain quarters.

Yours faithfully,

Quintus Andradi.

To quote George Bernard Shaw...

“I can forgive Alfred Nobel for having invented dynamite, but only a fiend in human form could have invented the Nobel Prize.”

G.B.S is the only person to have been awarded both a Nobel Prize (1925) and an Oscar (1938), for his contributions to literature and for his work on the film Pygmalion, respectively. Shaw wanted to refuse his Nobel Prize outright because he had no desire for public honors, but accepted it at his wife's behest: she considered it a tribute to Ireland. He did reject the monetary award, requesting it be used to finance translation of Swedish books to English.

well, david, thanks. i guess the idea you are suggesting is -- we are the sherriffs, we are the high tribunal...

(might take 'em several years to read it -- laugh -- you must be taking pretty good notes)

i guess maybe i am one of these "new school of peacemakers" who is looking for healing rather than accusation. my feeling is -- the mideast is already buried alive in a list of accusations that take several years to read. i don't think i am qualified to interpret that huge confused volcanic mudbath -- so i think maybe what i want to do -- is to slow down that volcano

i am into "the new paradigm". 10,000 things at the same time. here's the quote i was just looking at. try getting your head around this incredible one-sentence vision..

Let us contemplate the one simple nature of that peaceful unity which joins all things to itself and to each other, preserving them in their distinctiveness and yet linking them together in a universal and unconfused alliance.

Quite agree Bruce...This war isn't a matter of being a 'little upset' though. It is one beastly great act of bullying in the very worst tradition US/Iraeli politics...It is one more huge War Crime by the outgoing GWB...who we must bring to justice along with his little mates in the UK and in Israel...that's the plan...bring them to justice only we will grant them their Human Rights and give them decent treatment, let them know every charge against them...should take them several years to read it...annd we will hold them in a proper prison and give them the chanceto defend themselves...just because they are barbarians does not excuse us who after all are civilised.
They done the crime(s) so they must do the time.

ok. it's early in santa barbara, i just got clicked in to this group. thanks. i am a little upset about what is happening in gaza. what i want to know is: when is an internet group going to be in the running for the nobel peace prize? what are we doing? what is the plan? we're a big happy love-in wringing our hands, and dreaming beautiful dreams?

here's the quote exactly to the right of this comment box, from the words of the nobel prize winner:

"We cannot go on, year after year, simply pretending to do something to help the situation in the Middle East. We must also get results,"

big duhhhhhhh from california. what's the plan, gang? love you all. bruce
