PUT YOUR LIGHTS ON!

We the people in the Community of iPeace, need to start learning ways to make an impact on our own communities, to help others who are less fortunate. It's time for us, as individuals, to give back, to make a change, to develop a "social conscience."

PUT YOUR LIGHTS ON, PEOPLE!

It's common practice for demonstrators and protesters to garner support for worthy causes by carrying signs urging drivers to "put your lights on" or "honk your horns" while passing by the picket lines, as a show of solidarity. Find more videos like this on iPeace ***** Now is the time to shine a spotlight on social practices that abuse a significant number of the world's people, the time to make a personal commitment to doing something about community and world issues. War, Hunger, Poverty, Disease, and Ecological Disasters, will affect us all, if left to run amok.I want this group to be a learning experience for it's members. If you, or a group you have worked with have come up with a solution to a social issue in your community, tell us about it! Describe what you did and let us know how it's working out. It could be anything from a soup kitchen for the homeless to a Skateboard Park for "bored" teenagers. Name your Cause!

This is one of mine.

Imagine being a person who has no job and no place to live. Think about being a person who often has to endure incredible changes in temperature while being seen as a scar on the face of the community. A person trying to survive through sub-zero weather conditions while watching others drive by in their comfortable (and warm) BMW Z3’s or their Audi A4’s; making a sign asking for help out of old weathered cardboard; or suffering the degradation of being in "the public eye" and having every inch of body and soul being judged by every passerby. To be brought so low in society is to have no sense of security. That is what every homeless person faces, on a daily basis.

I know that a few people help the homeless, but it's not enough.

"Oh sure," you might say, "The homeless are people who choose to be there. They didn’t strive for a better life because they're lazy."

That might be a true in some cases but it's important to realize that most of the time that's not the whole story (or even a part of it).

We need to start focusing on ways that we can impact our own communities. We need to help others who are less fortunate. It is time for us each, as individuals, to give something back. It's time to start a change in the way things are being done (or not done). We need progress and NOW is the time to find people a home.

Winter's closing in.

"Each one of us on Earth has it... the ability to lead and inspire. Sometimes our work feels small and insignificant... but remember... a small ripple can gain momentum and build a current that's insurmountable. Begin with one small step. Don't let others stand in your way. Walk your own path. Some may laugh. So what? Others will follow."

THIRD WORLD WOMAN

War

Poverty

Famine

Disease

Pollution

Deforestation

Overpopulation

Children sick with hunger
Famished
They lay in waste
Distended bellies
Lifeless eyes

Millions live this life
Every day
If you can call it that
It's more of a living death
That comes too slow
To a world that doesn't care
It's too preoccupied
Too easily offended

A child died today
Others will die tomorrow
Even the dirty water
In the village
Is drying up from draught

This is the world we live in
A world
Where politicians meet
And talk at international summits
As they dine and sleep
In luxurious comfort
The ice is melting
The seasons are changing
Animals
Insects
Fish and plants
Are disappearing
Becoming extinct

Sometimes
It seems as though
The world is dying
A long slow death
From centuries of war
And conquest of whatever
Seemed important at the moment

When they are through talking
And have solved nothing
More people will die
More ice will melt
More animals
Will become extinct

Where do we go from here?
When there is no clean air
Left to breathe
When there is no clean water
Left to drink
When there are no riches
Left to exploit
Will we hear their cries then?

WORDS TO LIVE BY.

Robert, the ideas you put forth about churches and their congregations taking in one of two homeless people and working to turn their lives around is so beautiful in it's simplicity, that it brought a tear to my eye when I read the words. If only the world still worked that way.... or maybe it does. How many here believe that there is enough TRUST out there to help this IDEA fly? People are afraid to welcome strangers into their lives. The "Good Samaritans" have been few and far between down through the ages. Who here would take in a homeless person if asked to by their Pastor or Minister? Who would not? Give me some reasons and remember, there are no right or wrong answers. Robert, (who put forth this solution)

simply wants to know what people think of the idea. So do I. (MTMNTC)

Hello everyone! I was so happy to log on after work today and find all you wonderful people here! Thank you so much for joining. I know that this group will touch the lives of many people. It will be the source of new ideas and past solutions that have worked for others. We will discuss MANY things: war and peace; poverty and homelessness; famine and disease control; environmental and ecological issues; the list is endless.... but with your SUPPORT we CAN make a DIFFERENCE. Remember the words of Margaret Mead, Anthropologist and Never Doubt It!! --Christie (MTMNTC)

Percentage wise, the homeless are few in number. One of the problems I saw when I was working with the homeless was that they tend to collect at shelters, soup kitchens, etc, but there really isn't enough resources nor are they managed as well as they could be. The solution I thought of was why can't churches put a bed or two somewhere in the church basement. To ask any one church or other community organization to have more than a bed or two is asking too much. But, think of it this way. If a community has 400 churches, that adds up to 400 to 800 beds. This way, the homeless person could have a social support community, and since there is an entire congregation, people could take turns helping the person, thus it wouldn't be a burden on any one person. Thus, I think it would be very good for the homeless person and I think it would be good for the church as well. This is also an efficient way of providing much better care without increasing taxes.

If anyone cares to hear more about this idea, let me know. Thanks for inviting me to your group and thanks for caring, Robert

Hello my friends! Thank you so much for joining PYLO! With such caring people aboard to lend a helping hand, this group cannot fail to touch the lives of a number of people. My Nana taught me when I was younger, that a full stomach would lead to a happy heart and a peaceful mind. Her first reaction to any problem was to discuss it over a plate of food and a hot drink. There's a lot of truth to her theory. If we want World Peace we need a lot more Full Stomachs! The answer to the World's problems is not that simple, of course, but a decent meal provides the energy needed to get on with a job and it's a good place to start. Thanks again, my friends! :D --Christie
