Since 2006, Raising Malawi has been dedicated to bringing en end the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's 2 million orphans and vulnerable children. Co-founded by Madonna and Michael Berg, Raising Malawi uses a community-based approach to provide immediate direct psychical assistance, support long-term sustainability, create education and psychosocial programs, and build global awareness for the plight of Malawi's vulnerable children.
Raising Malawi has created long-term partnerships with community-based organizations that provide vulnerable children with nutritious food, proper clothing, secure shelter, formal education, targeted medical care, and emotional support. In addition, Raising Malawi supports non-government organizations that offer impoverished families with innovative opportunities for sustainability.
In 2008, Raising Malawi announced the creation of an all-girls boarding school that will provide the means for impoverished girls to realize the full range of their potential; to act as examples of girls' empowerment and gender equity; to foster Malawian cultural pride and responsibility; and to raise the nation of Malawi and its people to abundance and lasting health.
By collaborating and co-creating programs with its vast range of partners - Raising Malawi supports dedicated people on the ground and in the villages - the ones who really understand the challenges and the solutions. Through working at the grass-roots level, rather than trying to impose impractical beliefs and methodologies on Malawian culture, real and lasting change is occurring in the lives of hundreds of thousands of impoverished children.
