When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I'm just a peaceful person
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
Violence
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Fear
More
Humans are hard wired by instinct over thousands of generations to fear those who are different from themselves. This manifests itself as hate, xenophobia, territorialism, and intolerance. We must continue to evolve as a species to overcome this instinct.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I have tried to live an ethical life striving for honesty in my business and personal affairs, with fairness and tolerance towards others. My wife and I have raised two boys, one of whom has embarked on a life dedicated to public service, while the other is starting his higher education after spending a year as a tutor/mentor in an inner city middle school through the City Year Organization.

Currently, I practice Personal Injury Law and volunteer services at both the Legal Aid Office and at the Superior Court.

I was a Conscientious Objector during the Vietnam War and contribute to the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the Jewish Peace Fellowship, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

You're so right about the importance of communication......but I feel that it is more simple than knowing your rights-----it is about communicating in a way that talks about yourself (statement of the (unimbellished facts) your feelings, your needs, your requests from yourself and others) and then an acceptance if others don't respond to your requests.....I think this would keep people out of trouble and also help them once they did get into trouble. I have been very much helped by Marshall Rosenberg's Non-violent Communication Even if someone else doesn't respond positively, I feel that I have done everything that I could to COMMUNICATE with them.......I have only been in little trouble, so I don't know what being arrested illegally or given an unjust sentence would feel like. As an educator, I have heard lots of stories and been in lots of "unjust" situations involving others---my students and their families. I guess I would like to see English/language classes be about speaking one human to the other. There is a lot of talk and do's and don'ts, but not a lot of teaching the use of compassionate languaging...........Thanks for what you are doing---I agree with you that human learning should undercut your business and it would be a great thing! Peace to you and thanks for responding!

My son always wanted to become a lawyer......I used to tell him that there were no honest lawyers. He said he would be the first. I was happy when he changed his mind and became a social studies teacher.

Perhaps you are that honest lawyer? I apologize for disparaging the whole profession. That's never healthy. As an educator, I always felt it was important to teach our youth to be able (and to want) to have direct communication with each other. Otherwise a lawyer would have to step in.

Maybe we could work together to improve the communication between people and eliminate the need for both lawyers and educators..........
