Fear, insecurity - the sense that one can not move or act or speak freely - leads to intolerance and violence. Fear of poverty or loss manifests itself as greed. Fear of others is expressed as prejudice and hatred. Solve fear, and we will solve so many other problems.

You once asked if there was an MLK or Ghandi in Islam. Of course there have been many but the one that should interest you most is Badshsh Khan, Nonviolent Soldier of Islam and the book written about how he defeated the British Empire without violence is written by Eknath Easwaran and can be obtained from Amazon.com
