Ignorance is probably one of the crucial obstacles to peace. If I am sick and have a terminal illness, then I need cure that is effective on that level. If you put a bandage on a foot that has gangrene, you may provide temporary relief, but eventually the foot will need to be amputated. That's ignorance of the problem. Saying religion is a part of the problem when 97% of the population of the world is invested in religious belief is ignorance of the essential need of humanity.
Saying we have evolved to a place where religion is obsolete is naive and typical of those who stand on platforms and proclaim how the platform they are standing on is not necessary - they are in utter contradiction.
Not understanding essential human need( not just physical provision -Maslow) and supplying the physical but not the higher order psychological, philosophical, and spiritual need is ignorance and leads to higher-order poverty.
Failure to learn the lessons of the past creates enemies of peace in the minds of those who are ignorant of the past and the wise voices that have spoken. Those who seek change and peace, who are not students of history run wildly and blindly forward passionately fighting for illusions, not understanding that answers may have already been given but simply gone unheeded, or dismissed, because after all, we live in a new generation, a new age, and so we must have new ideas, are victims of ignorance.
If I believe strongly about peace and ignorance, but say that my opinion is merely relative, then my opinion should not be taken seriously and is inconsequential...if it is not merely relative, and can definitely be applied to the issue of peace, then it is worth being vocal about it....I am just afraid that in our world today, anyone who believes strongly about anything at all becomes the enemy and absolute openess becomes the only cherished ideal.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I am an artist and teacher living in the state of Pennsylvania. I have a background in English education and education in general. I am a musician with a wide- variety of musical tastes, from classical to blugrass, rock, emo, alternative, and most things contemporary. I have a black labrador retriever who always seems to be either in a state of critical mass and explosion or bottomless-pit devouring of everthing in site. I enjoy reading, particularly non-ficition, and writings that have a philosophical bent, but I like poetry as well and have published a little (emphasis on little). I am very interested in landscape impressionism, but find that I am moving toward more abstraction in my art.
