I Believe

I believe in our world there exists more good than bad

And that even in the bad lies a modicum of good

I believe that for each of us lives more than one right mate

That love beats stronger than hate's thrumming violence

That forgiveness brings healing to the not only the soul

of she who receives it

but also to he who gives it

I believe that angels hold more strength

than a demon holds evil

I believe that when humanity all bleeds red

inequality and prejudice should be laid to rest

I believe the only person with whom we should compete

and do our best to better stares back from the mirror.

Going Green

Posted on May 23, 2009 at 10:22pm 0 Comments

These few things I do as my contribution to our beautiful, but ailing, planet:

Grow my own pesticide-free tomatoes in pots on the patio

Recycle paper, tin, and glass

Drive as seldom as possible

Use vinegar and soda as cleansers rather than the chemical commercial cleansers

Write to my congress people supporting legislation to use "green" fuels and energy sources

Support sites that contribute to this effort

April Gratitudes

I have written in journals and diaries since I was 12 years old, and to this day, I find them to be a source of joy, a way to capture moments, thoughts, and ideas that might otherwise elude me. I love to fill the pages with every-day rememberings, poems, thoughts and feelings, newspaper clippings, drawings, pressed flowers, pictures, and oh so many things. This is from my Gratitude Journal for the 1st half of April:

1. Happy birthday, Amy. I am thankful God allowed me of all women on… Continue

The Children of Gaza ... a poem

The Children

I can hear them cry out

another nightmare

come daylight becomes

another reality.

I can see them bleeding

limbless and pleading

in a universal language...

freedom from war

should be theirs,

the children.

I can feel them trembling

as they wet their beds

crying out in pain for

rescue from war

and food for their stomachs.

I can… Continue

A Tanka Poem In Honor Of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Racial Equality

A great man sowed seeds of peace
Next door to a dream
Nurtured them with prayers and blood
Great men die as all men do
But great dreams live on.

The Missing Four

They could and did,

Rip you from my arms,

Blot you from my sight,

Removed from my vicinity,

The smell of sweet baby

skin and hair.

They could and did,

Change your names

So precious to me

That they still sing to

My hearing

As do your voices

In my dreams

When sleep will come.

They could and did

all of that,

But they could not and

They not take

You from my memory

Nor my… Continue
